I haven't had time to dig into it yet, but thought I'd get ideas.

All in about a mile, it quit firing on one cylinder, then started again, about 3 times, then it just quit all together on the one. Slowed down, it was idling roughly obviously on the one, then just quit all together. Put new plugs in (Old ones didn't look that bad, just a little dark), and it won't start. Popped once on one cylinder, but that's been it. I've dried the plugs thinking it might have been flooded, but nothing.

Do these CDI ignition boxes go that suddenly? Could it be the magneto?

Will be looking at this later this weekend. Thanks for any insight in advance.

If the CDI goes usually you won't get any spark. Have you checked compression to see if maybe it cold siezed?? Or spin your clutch to see if you can feel a bearing problem?? Have you checked to see if you have spark on both cylinders or only one??

Same symptoms i had when my 99 500's crank bearing took a crap. Take off the clutch and check around the seal for damage. Usually when a crank bearing goes, the seal kinda goes to crap. Test the compression too.

No compression check, but it still "thumps" pretty good when I pulled it over slowly, and the plugs looked pretty normal, just a little dark. I do let it warm up some and not rev it past 4-5000 for a good 1/2 mile to a mile or more. This all happened after about 3 miles, a good 10+ minutes of run time.

I have yet to check spark, or anything else at this point. Plan is to attack it tomorrow.

While running, spray some starting fluid or carb cleaner behind the primary clutch to check for air leaks. I really thought my sled's cdi took a crap, but that wasn't the case. Hope yours ain't the crank.

Good luck

Will do, did that pre-season and it was all good, but I guess (obviously) things change.

Edit: Wait a minute, it has to start and run for that test.

How about Stator failures, anyone heard of that on this sled/motor? How can I test that?

sled

check your wiring over, might have a wire going to ground somewhere. Take the seat off and check the wires going to the tailight as well. A friend's 98 did the same thing.

How do I bypass the key switch? I have never turned it, always used the "kill" switch/button. Seems odd it would have intermittently quit running on one cylinder if it was the switch.

Off to diagnose.

Not sure how it happened, but got to the main wire harness plug and it was loose. All good to go!

good news! dielectric grease is a good thing also! use on most elect. connections. a long wire tie around connecters works well. even on my new sleds, I get under that hood and check all connections and routing of wires, seems like the manufactuers dont do the complete job like I like to see!!
