99 SRX 600 Been Sitting

Got a buddy that wants to come up with us in a couple weeks but his sled has been sitting for at least a couple years. Its a SRX 600 triple, I'm sure there is gas in it and it's been in a barn. He's asking us to go through it for him to get it ready. Probably only wants to invest enough to ride it that weekend cause he's been telling me for 2 years he should sell it. Haven't seen it yet, but anyone got some suggestions where to start, what to look at, and what to do for sure?

Give the guy $100 dollars to stay home because what you described is a ruined snowmobile weekend pulling this guy out of the bush with YOUR sled.

In other words, at the least the entire fuel system needs to be cleaned up, cleared out and unvarnished. Of course if you really feel lucky you could just drain the gas out of the tank, pull the plugs and squirt some mix in the jugs and give it a rip with fresh gas....but do you really feel that lucky....well do yah punk! (sirry...just couldn't resist)

x2, or have him rent one for your trip. Could not agree more with anonomoose. Been there, don't want to be there again!


To answer your question. Empty fuel tank. Fresh spark plugs. Clean carbs. Belt. Carbides. Grease. Chaincase oil. Check for any mouse damage due to sitting in a barn. That is where I would start.

I ride with a buddy every few years, that lucky sob does this all the time. He doesn't even drain the old gas,between the sea foam ,and the fresh 92oct.what Moore do I need to do ,he says. This same guy drove from NW IND,with 1 head lite ,and 1 wiper,to the Up and back. Some people just have a horse shoe up their ars.

Well some of you put a smile on my face with your replies, at least if it fails, there is about 12 of us going so I'll let one of the "kids" pull him back to the house if that happens.

Planned to drain gas, get new plugs and clean things up, but I've never pulled one of these apart before. Hope to get it this afternoon, is it pretty straight forward? Anything to watch out for, or tricks to make it easy to clean things up?

Sorry, I wasn't clear on what I was cleaning. I fully intend to clean the carbs, and valves but those are the things I'm wondering about. Anything I need to know before diving in?

Its all pretty straight forward on that sled and if the carb bowls do look nasty and you have a shop close i would save myself some time and trouble and just throw new pilot jets in. I am not a big yammi fan but if it was running ok when put away clean the carbs and it will run just fine.That motor is about bullit proof.

if it's been in a barn check for the mouse nest in the airbox and more than once i've seen them build nest in the pipe or muffler. if will run doggy until all of sudden the nest blows out the exhaust or starts to burn out!!

As for an update on the rest of it:

Got it out 2 weeks ago. Opened it up, no mice or a sign of them, filled it up with 91, pulled about 8 or 10 times, fired up, ran pretty good. Adjusted the idle, ran it for a little on the stand and it seemed good. Few days later rode around a little without a problem. Guys dad rented a 2-up for the trip so if it dies and we don't feel like working on it, they can double up :) I know my sled will run!
