Here's a link to a story from our area today. It appears there was a Dump Truck traveling at highway speeds with the box up at 5 o'clock this morning when he hit a bridge across one of our expressways. You might have to sit through a commercial before the video starts. It looks like the box became jammed under the bridge and tore free of the truck, at Highway Speed!!

I bet he knew what happened whan it happened,,poor guy was thinking,,,I knew I forgot something,,,KABLAMO,,, DA BOX

Actually he didnt know what happened, thought he blew a tire at first , until he looked back and noticed his box was gone. I saw this post and read the article and my heart went in my throat. Why you ask ? My brother works for Fredrickson and is from Little Chute. I called him and said please tell me it wasnt you, he said I wish I could. He is at no fault for this . H e just left the yard and box was down and said for some unknown reason it raised up. The controller to raise box has to be held in for a period of time to raise up, so theres no way he could have done it . The company is trying to figure out why it went up by itself.

Sound like a good reason to abuse your brother
"Well at least I didn't wreck a bridge" Glad to hear he is OK Thats what an umbrella policy is for the unexspected stuff that happens that costs hugh dollars amounts.

We had one around here years back driving down a surface street with box up and he snagged the power lines. Dragged down a few poles, broke the lines, shut down the road, basically f'd everything up for quite a while as they fixed it all.

There was no work going on in the area so it wasn't like he pulled out and forgot about it, could have been a malfunction like it appears it was in this instance.

Not accusing or blaming here.

A dump truck box will not dump without the PTO engaged. With the PTO engaged a truck will shift harder than if it was not engaged. If the truck has an automatic transmission this accident is easier to understand, but even with an automatic most of the time you can here a little extra winding noise when the PTO is engaged. With a radio on, wind noise, other distractions on the road, anything can happen.

I install the hyd systems on trucks for dump bodys and dump trailers. 99% of the time there is also a bright red LED light telling you that the PTO is engaged (unless theres isnt hooked up..and ya the whining noise at freeway speeds is enough to make you check your PTO control.
