A March Vintage Afternoon

Wow that looks pretty clean too start with!
It’s definitely in better shape than a lot of the prizes I’ve picked up. Of course, that comes at a price but still think I got a lot for the money.

The seller installed a brand new, out-of-the-box Xenoah 440 liquid engine (new old stock). Awesome motor and very quick. He also did a Mikuni round-slide carb conversion on the engine and went through the rear suspension. He was planning on restoring it but he also had a lot of 68-72 Chaparrals, which were his main interest, so the 74 was something he was willing to part with.

So, the things that need to be done on the sled are mostly cosmetic, which is the fun stuff.

Nice find! I have to admit, I have never seen a Chap that wasn't red, nice looking sled regardless. Number 9 for the showroom floor.

The “Navajo Orange” on the SSX models was a pretty bold departure from the usual red and I have to be honest, I’m not crazy about the color. It’s funny, in some of the 74 ads for the sled the color looked a little more orange and brighter. Since the hood/pan need painting anyway, I’m thinking of finding something more along that line.
