Man, I hope I'm not coming down with a cold. My throat and nasal have been scratchy today, it'll be hard to keep up this schedule with a bug hanging around. It's been dusty at the airport in recent days and I'm hoping that's the cause.
Nearly everyone I know has seen the series, "Band of Brothers." I've probably watched it a dozen times over the years. The story of the 101rst Army Airborne, their training and experience fighting in Nazi Germany. This week, AirVenture honored their story with a recreation of their jump in the early morning hours of D Day, June 6th 1944.

The C 47 Skytrain was their plane that before the war was an airliner designated as the DC 3.
Notice the black and white stripes on the wings and fuselage. That was done just prior to the invasion to identify our own planes. Don't shoot down the "friendly's".
I'm not sure of the altitude. I've never jumped out of a perfectly good airplane. Different times and places, I guess.
Their chutes opened automatically, at least they better hope they would.
Then back on the friendly grounds of Oshkosh, Wisconsin.
During the EAA, two heavily attended days are Wednesday and Saturday. They feature two air shows and fireworks. When my alarm goes off at 4 a.m. I am sound asleep by the time they get to the fireworks. the following pic is from a friend.
I'm told the fireworks are so massive, they're brought in on several flatbed semi-trailers.
And to close out the day with really nothing related to aircraft and aviation....
GREAT SCOTT! Doc Brown is here!!
We'll see you tomorrow at AirVenture 2024!
