Al Bundy or Archie Bunker

Bundy. Because back in Bucker's day, it was pretty normal to act the way he did. But in the 80's and 90's Bundy was still doing it, that made it more funny.

Bundy. best line was when Peg asked Al if her dress made her look fat. His response was "No Peg, its the fat that makes you look fat" Priceless..

Yes, "it was pretty normal to act the way he did", but All in the Family was absolutely groundbreaking with its in-your-face treatment of issues previously considered unsuitable for a U.S. network television comedy, such as racism, homosexuality, women's liberation, rape, religion, miscarriage, abortion, breast cancer, the Vietnam War, menopause, and impotence."

I'd have to go with Archie but Al would be a close second. No one had seen and heard a character like Archie Bunker on TV prior to All in the Family. Even though just about all of us had an uncle or relative that sounded just like him. The Bundy's were the first family that I recall that made dysfunction funny.

Joe Carmichael has them both beat! lol... Carmichael Show is dealing with some interesting issues like assisted sucide which was/is a classic imo... soooo freaking funny!!!! If you not watching ...START!!

to me they were both classic's and in a time before everything had to be politically correct for everyone it seems?
But I will go with Bunker, the show just crossed more lines IMO!

All In The Family was groundbreaking in many many ways. There were many areas that were off limits before that production. Married With Children was just stupid on top of stupid. Don't get me wrong I liked Married With Children but this not really apples to apples.

Both awesome in their own way. Bundy was hilarious.
I do remember that All in the Family was so controversial that it was only aired late at night when it was first released.
Might have been a local thing ,but I think it was on after the late shows around here.

Haaa, good thread. I vote Archie. I agree with frnash in that he put it all out there when no one else would. Al was funny, but not as politically bashing as All In The Family. Imagine a show like either one of them on the air these days. There would be so many butt hurt people out there.....it would be awesome. I'm stickin with Archie....
