I'm not usually one to pass on rumors, but I just received this from a "usually reliable source". FWIW.
(No surprise to me, I've never trusted "Farcebook"!)

"There is a new malware that is really causing problems with Facebook today."
Read about it (click →) here.

They already own your soul.
Wanted a facial picture and a copy of a billing statement to verify identity. I do not like the data collecting of that much "private" information. Faces are the new fingerprints. Never used to need fingerprints to do business. It is part of life now.

I don't understand why so many businesses use this format as their major marketing tool.

You see the class action lawsuit filed over the facial recognition? It is against the law in Illinois. Going to cost them.

So many reasons to not use FB. You already have google and apple tracking your every move because of your phone.

I hadn't even heard of the Illinois lawsuits. I don't see them having a whole lot of success. The feds are already using the information. It is interesting how that has crept into acceptance. It wasn't too long ago when the only facial scans at the border were just for the non-citizens. We all got used to that idea for our "own" safety.

I have to laugh that people are shocked that their personal information was obtained, when just look at the information you have to give just to sign on and terms you have to agree to, and all the personal information people choose to put out there, I will admit I am an anti tech guy and avoid all social media other than this site for that very reason. Even with my business I refuse to use face book because of the possibility of false information being posted in which we have had 2 incidences in the past on yelp with negative posts that have absolutely no merit to it and had to go through **** and high water to have it removed, meanwhile it was out there for everyone to see. No matter what their promise is for security or how secure your pass code may be, just watch TV and see all the major and governmental institutions that are constantly being hacked or personal information being sold. I have a very hard time feeling sorry for people who use sites like face book and honestly expect that their information is completely safe, you put it out there for all to see I'm sorry but too bad.

Tracker I understand this, and yes I understand that if someone wants to they can , including my own information, if they want to they could get ahold of my banking, credit card and medical info if they wanted to but I'm not going to post personal things about me out there for the whole world to see and then complain when someone gets ahold of it, I don't own a personal computer, I refuse to have a computer in my home, I guess you can consider my smart phone a computer and honestly if I didn't have a business a flip phone would suit me just fine and even at that I made it 25 years without one I'm sure I could live the rest of my life with out that too. I know no one including me is safe, but you cant honestly tell me that anyone on any site at any given time fully expects that that information is completely secure and if you are going to put all of your personal of personal information out there and not believe there is a chance someone can get ahold of it if they want to, you have to be completely oblivious to what goes on in todays world, I just don't think someone should be held financially liable on social websites because no matter what safeguards are put in place if they want it they will get it. So no I'm not saying I'm safe from it, I get that.

Just a point of info. I share no info from this site or board with any individual/any business. I have been approached, but have refused and always will.

I see no risk with FB. Define "personal information". I signed up with my email, name, city / State.and that's it. And you can make up whatever city, birthdate and not use a primary email. All that can be found thru google or phone book. Not sure how signing on with FB would link someone to my credit card, bank info or other ?

FB app installed on your phone. This is the pocket tracker. Where you live, work, stop for gas, on and on and on....
So does android or apple phones. All these big companies collect data to make money selling it or using it.
The companies they sell the data to and what it is used for is just mind blowing.

I work for a large insurance company. We are pushing the plug in tracker saying you get discounted rates for being a safe driver.
Just wait for them to lobby and force this on every one in order to have insurance which is of course mandatory.
The information they are gathering with the trackers in your car is being sold to other companies who use this how?

Apple - Google - FB all offer free services to justify them collecting all of this data. It is now creeping in to things you pay for.

My little rant for the night - off to drink/bowl

Chords, maybe I worded incorrectly, I wasn't singling out that face book through signing up on their website would enable someone to access my personal information (i.e. bank, credit card and medical) I'm just saying that the web in general if you use it and put your information out there if someone wants to get it they can, and again I'm sorry you cannot honestly expect that what you put out there no matter what it may be is safe from someone obtaining, and I agree with tracker that even if you don't use social media or the net doesn't mean you are safe. I just don't think a social media site should be financially responsible for the fact that someone's information that "they" chose to put on the site was used or hacked for other reasons. I mean what is the magical formula for an settlement weather it is the law or not. Personally I don't think anything you put out there is completely safe no matter the fail safes or protection that may be in place, if someone doesn't want their information seen, used or sold in a way other that what they had intended it for, just don't put it out there, simple as that. and if you do you have to accept the possible miss use if it. I just think social media websites no matter who they are should not be financially responsible, when you (the end user) put the information out there for someone to get

The way I read the article is that it is a Trojan malware program that comes to you via Facebook as a paint feature that changes backgrounds or whatever. You click on it and it infects your computer, phone, device, etc. not just your Facebook account. It hides in your computer, phone, device and takes information from your computer including information that you have not volunteered.
