Heading out to Jackson for the Hillclimbs next week. A group of us are renting out of Alpine, WY on Friday and riding the Grey's River area for the day. Has anyone ever ridden that area? Any tips or things we should make sure we see?

Cheers,

That's a great day ride. If you can, stop at the "Box Y" ranch for lunch (its about 20 or so miles up the trail from the parking area - you can hit it on the way out or back from going "up top"). Grey's River is a great area and nowhere near as crowded as Togwotee.

Just rode there last Sunday and Monday. Ride in from Alpine and head up the trail to the warming hut. Its about 35 miles from Alpine to the hut but goes very fast. Snow was great over 8,500 feet - coming down in buckets even though the first 33 miles of trail looked like the day was going to be a dud. Stopped in at the Box Y on the way out - NEVER AGAIN. Walked in, talked with 2 other guys who were drinking hot cocoa and walked up the the counter to order a beverage. The tool washing some dishes looked at me and continued washing dishes - the girl there was playing on her computer and ignored me. I stood there holding a $20 for 3 minutes and the guy washing dishes made no effort to walk 10 feet to help me. If thats the kind of customer service they have - forget it. We geared back up and left for somewhere our business was appreciated.

yeha blind bull is a ride from alpine IMHO not worth the trail ride to get there unless u are looking for big open play areas.deff some fun stuff at the bull we did find some sick drops and some great dranages.
some of the best ridding around is less than 20min from the t at the bridge just out of town.
one spot we went to and saw no one and was a blast was Mc cane cabin but that is still a bit of trail.
after 21hrs the last thing I am looking for is a trail ride

I'm surprised to hear of the poor service at the Box Y. I've stopped there many times over the years and have never had anything but great food and excellent service. Oh well, I guess it can happen anywhere.

Rode for a solid 8 hours on Friday in the Grey's River area. Had an unbelievable time with some very nice conditions. The snow down low was pretty hard but once you got up past 7,000 ft it was awesome. The trail in was groomed and smooth. Did the loop up to McCain Cabin then over to the Box Y. Didn't experience any issues with the service and found everyone to be genuine and very accommodating. From Box Y we headed up to Blind Bull where we had amazing conditions. A ton of fresh powder and fun hill climbs! There was a group that had fire going in the warming hut so when the snow came in it was great to take a short break, warm up and have some good conversation with some other riders. Once again, the snow up in Blind Bull was everything you could hope for coming from the flat lands and dreaming of powder turns. On the way back we took trail C. It was a beautiful trail with some awesome views and switchbacks. Wish we weren't in a rush to get the rentals back because there were plenty areas to play off the trail. All in all we had a great day or riding. We rented our sleds from Jackson Hole Adventure Rentals. They have a location in Alpine so we didn't have to rent a vehicle/trailer which was a great plus. Good experience renting from them. They were very helpful and answered any questions I had. Saturday we went to the hillclimbs and had a blast. All in all we had a great trip!
