Hang on to your scrap if you have the room or don't need the money, talked to acouple of wrappers in my area that said steel will hit 500 a ton this spring and copper will be over 5 a pound. I'm waiting it out, have probably 500 lbs of brass and 100 lbs of copper. Not including some junk trucks.

Got $350 for a ton of scrap steel yesterday. most the hot water heaters where full of water (ice) at 8#'s to the gallon. scrapping is profitable.

Get about five cents a piece down here back after we pay it at the store. So cans must be worth basically nothing to Iowans. How does the five cents compete to the per pound price though?

Basically when fuel rises, so does scrap. $500.00 per ton holly wow!!! Better lock every thing down thats made of steel. Just got back from west Palm beach Florida yesterday,
all of the sewer / storm covers were chained down & locked, from scrap prices being high the last time they were raping us for fuel. Also all the foreclosed houses that are around are gonna be stripped!

I heard same going up over 5 a lbs. Well I will save the rest of what I have. I'm a hvac installer and I take all the scrap. Must have about 75 a/c units "just the coils" still, plus couple 55 gal. drums of pipe.

I also save wire. Bought a wire stripping tool on ebay for about $80 works great. Just don't let the wire pile up, takes to long then to strip. When I bring little wire home I try to strip it right away. I have a 30 gal. garbage can that is full of wire. They pay more for strip wire then copper pipe. Its fun to wacth my friends come over and use it, they stip the wire thinking its fun.
