Well fellow snowmobilers...

I just returned from a 2 day trip to the Western UP. We started our journey Monday morning at 9 AM from the Watersmeet hotel and casino. We rode West on the railroad grade towards Lake Gogebic. The grade had plenty of snow, was a hard packed, fast and flat. We then rode the trail on the east side of Lake Gogebic. Trail was also recently groomed, with a hard packed base. We then got on trail 8E. and made our way to trail 3 North all the way to Hancock Michigan where we checked in at the Ramada. This was a 3 hour, 130 mile ride. Every trail was flat, with plenty of hard packed snow, and very low traffic.after a brief stop at the Ramada, we headed up to Copper Harbor to get a late lunch at the mariner north. Once again trails were flat and snow was deep.in fact, the Brockway Mountain Trail was probably the best I've ever ridden in my 20 times of riding it over the past 25 years. Of course, the food at the mariner north was fantastic as always. We reversed our route and headed south down the Keweenaw back to the Ramada. With a 45minute lunch stop at the mariner, it was a three hour and 45 minute round-trip ride from the reamada up to the mariner north and back. Once again the trails could not of been better. In total, we rode 230 miles on Monday and we were back at the hotel to relax in their fantastic pool area and head out for an amazing pizza at the ambassador in Houghton. If you have not been to this place, you must make it a priority to visit.

On Tuesday, we headed back to Watersmeet via trail 3. We left the Ramada Inn in Hancock Michigan at 9AM. We stopped in Barriga at Claire's for lunch. The food was excellent. We were back in Watersmeet at 1:30 PM. once again, trails were fantastic and as smooth as a highway and made the 100 mile ride seem effortless.

thanks to all the groomers and clubs that do such a fantastic job of keeping the trails in excellent shape. We had a fantastic ride and look forward to doing it again one day in the future.

Based on first hand experience over the years. my brother calls the UP the "Good, Bad and the Ugly"

Have had the best ride ever and some of the worst conditions I have ever seen.

My mistake. We did not ride through Baraga. It was Bruce Crossing that we rolled through on the way home and stopped at Claire's for lunch. I have not ridden through Baraga in many years. In the past I didn't have very good luck as they never seemed to have as much snow. Not sure how the conditions are this year.

Great report! I just got home from a 3 day trip starting in Bergland and spending the first night in Big Bay and the second night in Copper Harbor and back to Bergland today. Trails were awesome for the most part. Can't wait to go back! Trails are still not open here and no snow in sight. :(

We went up 13 to Rockland and then 3 to Mass City, 12 to 109 south to 8/15 north to L'Anse and 14 over to Big Bay. That was 175 miles. There are more direct routes, like 8 east to 8/15 north, but then your first 40 miles are all railroad grade, and I just can't do that.

Really wonder how many peeps plan around grades?.. we do too... always in search of UP twistys even 107 getting boring with eps....never thought I would say that but eps so much easier steering & grades soooooo boring. This year stayed away from 107 & 3 once we had good snow cover in the UP interior.
