Ok I have a new replacement shield & an electric shield for Orginal BRP Modular Helmet. The problem is unscrewing the tiny screw from the black visor to the position tab that runs up & down outside the helmet. The phillips screw head is stripped & is recessed inside a plastic spacer....just can't get a grip with needle nose pliers. I have had 8 mechanics give up trying to get the screw out saying if I drill it I would melt the plastic if I cut it I risk breaking parts. Never has such a simple thing baffled so many including me.

Any suggestions??..... certainly others have encountered this problem replacing shields on orginal Mod & Mod 1 Helmets.

Thanks for the help,
Pete

I turn the knob on the other side. In fact I just dug out my Mod helmet to check.
Slide tint visor about halfway down. Take 1 hand and apply pressure on back side by screw. Push out enough that knob sticks out slightly. Turn knob with other hand.

When you reinstall, remember it's in plastic, don't crank the heck out of it.

Thanks & Good idea!... I thought of that but I couldn't get the tab to dislocate. I finally drilled out screw head at slow speed took about 30 seconds & black tint visor disconected at spacer & knob fell off. Way too easy after all the fussing about it. I had to trim black tint slot at one side to fit new shield but side cutters worked well. I went to ACE for another screw a little short but finally got it to thread in knob. Both my Orginal Mod helmets 1 electric other non electric back in service. :) I do need the helmet shield side cap for Right side lost that awhile back. Anybody know where I can get side shield caps???...probably on line or anyone retire an orginal mod or mod 1 & want to part out side shield caps?

Big Shout Out to Ben at Lando Rec who was able to order both electric & non electric orginal BRP mod/mod 1 shields. Other BRP dealers said obsolete but Ben looked it up on computer & both shields were in stock. Don't listen to the obsolete BS Orignal Mod & Mod 1 helmets are very good helmets Mod 2 & 3 were value engineered the Orgindal & Mod 1 were the best of the bunch.

I have part numbers for anyone in need of BRP Orignal Mod & Mod 1 electric & non electric shields just drop me a PM an I'll help you get set up for parts & thru installation.:)

I got tired of dealing with that tinted shield, broke it off and put it in the trash. E-Bay is loaded with those helmets. $170 with standard shield or $260 with electric. These are listed as new and most of the sellers are Doo dealers in the low snow states. I may buy one and keep the old one for parts. I find myself wearing one of my open helmets when trail riding more and more. It's a great cold weather helmet, but something is always breaking or falling off the darn thing.

Mod 2 helmets have a much wider field of view and the lens is so much clearer than the Mod 1. I got claustrophobic in the Mod 1 and didn't buy one. The Mod 2.....no problem.

EDIT - I put a small dab of BLUE Loctite on the threads of the side screws to keep them from loosening up. It would annoy the sheet outta me when they got loose.....but no more.

I was thinking about deleting the blacken shield but ended up installing it with both new shields. I now wear photo transition glasses so really no need for it even riding south on trail 3 Watersmeet to Lando at sunset.....That trail section is blinding at sunset! Paul I paid a lot less for standard & electric shield at Lando Rec the Electric was about $160 & the standard was $30 less. Ask for Ben the store manager he knows the part numbers.:)

Blue loctite would snug up side screw but I have not had that problem for many years for some reason both stopped backing out. My easy solution for tightening screws was to use a quarter to snug up but much more difficult with Orginal Mod all thumbs removing Screw Dress Caps with cold stiff fingers.... Those dress caps were deleted on later Mod helmets.

The prices I posted were for the helmet and shield. Look on E-bay. You will be shocked. The sellers are Doo dealers. Not some guy from Chicago who high jacked a shipping container. I have done the Loctite and it has helped.

I think the comment about the shipping container would fit better in New York. LOL

Spend anytime in the Back of the yards lately. Not much you can't by there, all brand new in the box. I would like to say lol,but it's the sad truth.

Ok researched side screw shield caps & found those too with a little help from Woodtic who got me on the correct path. Your orginal Mod helmet is not obsolete you just need to know where to source parts & how to make parts fit. PM if you need help.
