Another camper question...20 amp to power A/C?

50 amps can be either 120 or 240, depending on how you hook it. Different plugs for 30 amp 120v and 30 amp 240v, different plugs also with 50 amp 120v and 50 amp 240v. A 30 or 50 amp rv plug is NOT the same as a 30 or 50 amp dryer or stove plug. And if you do figure out a way to hook your 120v rv to a 240v plug, you will wreck every electrical thing in the rv.

As a licensed electrician. For your camper if you have a 30 amp plug on it just go with a 30 amp circuit. No need to worry about anything else. 30 amp RV recept. number 10 wire, and a 30 amp breaker is all it will take. Sure you can just use the 20 amp cheater dog bone and be fine but use it if you have to. You will be able to use just the AC. Like mentioned in one of the past posts don't even think of going 240v or you will fry everything! If you lived close to the Grand Rapids,MI area I would be more than happy to help you install it for you. For free of course! Good luck, and Happy Camping!

From personal RV experience I'd either go big with the 50 amp 240v plug or just slam dunk it and just wire up a 50/30/20 pedestal...

correct answer Scott. I wired my outlet at the cabin with a designated 30 amp 110v. breaker with 10 gauge wire. that line is only 3 ft. long from box to plug. I run everything and no tripped breakers. Air, Microwave, fridge, hot water heater, tv's (2), coffee maker and toaster all at same time.

You'll be fine....

You'd be better to have a 13.5 btu Coleman Mach 3 on the roof then you could use it on a 20 amp system. I've got a Jayco class C and it has a 13.5 on it. I run it with a 3000 watt Honda when I'm at the track . Runs fine but is taxed on voltage. It will still carry 115 volts which is O.K. Those AC's will run as low as 95 volts, but the Dealers do not want to hear about it do to warrentees.I wouldn't run it for long with 95 volts, due to compressor failure. You couldn't tell a 13.5 from a 15 anyway. jmo.

Well opened up the can of worms I see! Buy all the parts, and the install is easy!
