Another reason to stay on the marked trail

Last night while grooming I noticed a few of these and hope nobody got hurt!Lots of logging going on in the northwoods. no matter how wide the trail some JOEY will try to go off and make his own trail and test his M-10 and long track! Just enough snow to cover the stumps and must be like a minefield. Be carefull out there and stay on the marked trail!!

Ubee, were you grooming the trail north of Plum Lake heading west out of Star Lake? (Just north of Razorback Road.) That stump looks familiar. If its the one I'm think of, a guy on a new Ski-Doo hit it. He bounced off the embankment on the other side and was sitting in the middle of the trail when I approached him. He was moving slow while he looked over his sled. It had to do something bad to it.

xsledder ,the area you describe is in the sayner starlake area.the trail systems Boulder Jct grooms contain many new logging cuts and these have thousands of stumps just below the snow cover. I meant this as a warning because every OPEN area alongside our trails will get run over by the Joeys trying to jump and play blair m because there are no cornfields. These stump fields have already impacted alot of damage and the repair shops downsouth are having a banner year! remember, under every hump, there is probably a stump and you might be ok! the bj trails are marked with Logging signs. Also be aware of big Logging trucks and workers pickup truck.any marked trail that runs on a mapped road may have vehicles with the right of way! be smart ,drive safe!

I agree with Snow monkey. I carry insurance on my newer sled (2008)so if I do hit something atleast I don't have to pay 100% of the repairs. I don't have anything on the 04

I think it's time for "ubee" to post that " can of worms " pic he has ! I think stumps & can of worms go together !

This is the exact reason I say to stay on the trail. Off-trail has too many hidden dangers. What if you hit one of these stumps and you're 5 miles or more back into the woods? What if you sink your sled in a swamp? If you want to ride off-trail go west. I attempted this off-trail thing last weekend and cracked my bulkhead. Please stay on the trail.

No can of worms, just another be carefull warning to stay on the marked trails even in the northwoods!people think you can ride anywhere up here and there are no cops! heres another one that bit the dust. needed a tow truck! again This is meant as a safety warning!! We cannot put up 125 miles of snowfence to keep out the Joeys! drive safe!!

Well spoken ubee. This is a great warning of the dangers that lurke beneath the snowy blanket. My bud was following me this weekend when I shot out a 4x6 sheet of plywood with nails hidden under the snow, luckily they were a ways back and it shot to the side. If I hit a stump this season I will change my name to the stump monkey !!!

xsledder,

That was me you saw near Plum Lake on Friday......

I was following a buddy around that slight left hand turn and got blinded by some snow dust....next thing I know my right ski is caught just off trail and it sucked me into that damn stump. It was the first time my XP didn't go where I pointed her. I was only going about 15 mph thank goodness. It threw me off the sled onto the the trail and the sled righted itself and rolled into the embankment...sled never went over. No major damage to my sled, at least from what I can tell so far. I need to get her up on the lift and check it over.

I meant that respectfully, in admiration of the pic " ubee " posted a year or so ago. I don't like stumps, drunks or condone behavior that is disrespectful to others property. It gives snowmobilers a bad name. I was just trying to have a little fun. It seems everyone is " boondocking " now a days. For me staying on the trail just seems to work out the best.

skidude67,

It's good hear you and your sled is fine. I came up on you in a group with two T660 Turbo Touring's, a Phazer, and a ZL SS. You just finished looking at your sled and left. Sorry I couldn't move over any farther but the T660's are heavy beasts and sink in anything but a groomed trail. Plus my wife, on the T660 behind me, is not a big person. Again, I'm glad to hear your fine.
