Another Spring Snow Storm

All I will say is that it appears the cities of Houghton and Hancock did not learn from last year - when you purposely use resources to clear snow off of snowmobile trails that were still perfectly legal to ride on in an attempt to "force Spring," you jut had to know something like this would be the result.

Mezz you crack me up! Every snow storm you cuss it out. I would gladly switch locations with you if that's possible....

Believe me, if I could beam your azz up here right now I would. LOL! This has been a beat down winter, I have been a snow lover my entire life, could not wait for it, wake up every morning beginning in November & pull the shade open hoping to see the white gold. If we got pummeled late at night in the early season, I would be pulling the trigger on a rip down the hwy to get a quick fix. This year, has been relentless, I think most anybody that lives here would agree, the straw that broke the camels back was this winter. This recent round has given us 10" + so far & it's still snowing like ****, can't even tell you shoveled or plowed, when you think your done, start again. This winter reminds me of the movie "Ground Hog Day". I'm stuck & I can't get out!-Mezz

2X on can't believe no one is riding --
we rode on Lenny's great spring ride and two days before that - not ONE sled found on trail or off for 3 days - when I was re-entering the trail from a break I would look back to see if any one was coming and laugh out loud inside my helmet cause no one was there for 3 days!
maybe one more trip?
Looks like we have a good one on the way today.
Like we need another foot of snow LOL.
Riding well in to May this year.

I am torn between loving the snow (being a snowmobiler) and hating the snow (being a plow shoveling fool).

This winter is like the energizer bunny.

Burned a tank of gas yesterday in the woods. Conditions are still great in the area. Can't believe NO ONE is out riding. Not a single track any where we have gone. After this storm it will all be reset once again.

Happy Spring!

Since arriving at my office @ 9:ish, we have received an additional 4" & it's still falling at a lighter but steady pace. Now I have to go and shovel & plow, again.....-Mezz

I am headed to Hancock. Generally the Keweenaw and areas east of Munising and north of m28 are always good to ride if there is snow. Often this time of year in the Easter UP it can be difficult to get into towns but you can trailer into the woods. Same with Hancock but with ten fresh inches...

I understand there is snow but there was also enough snow 2 weeks ago and we were stopped by County Deputy that read us the riot act about trails being closed and that if we wanted to argue about it he was gonna impound our sleds for 93 days @ $10 a day and haul us off to jail

I believe that any year round trails that are open to ATV/UTVs are open. If you got stopped, my guess is you may have been on a trail that crosses private property, The land lease on those expires March 31st.

Well, after all was said & done with yesterday's snowfall, I measured a total of 18" of accumulation & that was taken around 3:30 pm which I know had settled a bit. Nonetheless, 4+ hrs of plowing & a lot of shoveling. Needless to say, a day of recovery is welcome. Happy Easter!-Mezz

bill nickles trail (#3 ) is all year all purpose - pretty sure you would have good riding from mass to houghton -I was just riding it last week on Lenny's ride and now they have a foot or so of new snow-maybe someone in the area can confirm- I believe you can off trail in US forests along the way but be sure you are in the forest- you could play for days between Mass and Houghton!
good luck and have fun!
Bessemer said it didn't matter sledding was done 3.31 throughout Michigan

from mass to houghton...and now they have a foot or so of new snow-maybe someone in the area can confirm-

Yesterday there was about 18" at my house here near Ontonagon, today with the sun and breeze it is down to about 4".....

Was looking at a job near Twin Lakes this afternoon and yesterdays snowfall wasn't even up to the rim of the truck tires anymore where yesterday I was dragging the doors....

So just because we got that much snow doesn't mean there is much left, and with rain in the forecast for tomorrow it will likely all be gone.

Unfortunately it sounds like the County deputy doesn't have a clue of what the laws are. If he told you that he is clearly clueless. Impound your sled???

Oh no he made it very clear to us that he knew the law and that he used to be the president of the local club. After talking to some of my neighbors up there, " allegedly" he is the guy that was caught embezzling from the club. Doesn't matter year is over and it was a good one!
