Not sledders this time...none the less...it effects us s

Section of trail lost due to trespassing!!
I regret to inform everyone in this great club & sport that we have lost a long time & enjoyed historic R.R. grade –TRAIL 16A- out near Harrison. This trail was just recently closed by the land owner who said they had experienced ATV damage to their property over the summer. (& no, its not a summer atv trail). As per usual, the short "40" acres that was closed will unfortunately affect a longer piece of trail. -description is as follows: -
Trail closure runs from the intersection of MT&W/Gouda rd. (Located approx. 1/2 mi. north of intersection N61) then heading east - past the ONE WAY trail- to where the trail meets up again with corridor 16 --just west of cty. rd. b.
most importantly; understand that this trail closure does not cut Harrison off from tomahawk & all the restaurants and bars are open for business. however, any trail loss is a BIG trail loss & we will do all we can to get‘er back open again next season -- but be vigilant – Once we lose a trail it is real hard to get back.

Just got back from 21/2 weeks in HI...where is alla the snow?

As far as this trail goes, is this RR grade owned by alla the landowners parcels that it cuts through?...if so that is kinda weird.Must have been turned over before the whole rails to trails effort was established.

It seems every year we keep losing more trails. We need to try and educate more people some how. Maybe do a class about it and if you pass you get a card so you can drive. Clubs and Dealerships should provide classes to young and old just starting out in this sport. or any kind of sport.
I took a class years ago when I was 13 and have not fogotten the things I learned and in a club thats very active.
The more we lose the more people are going to trespass. Educate where they can go off trail and where not too.

In Wisconsin...most of the railroad grades revert back to the land owners (not the state)....Michigan did it right, and took possession of most the grades to make orv trails...Wisconsin did not, and are paying the price in many areas...it really sucks that atv's did this, as it only effects snowmobilers (it never was an authorized atv trail...snowmobile only)....this is why atvs need to be kept off snowmobile trails...PERIOD!!! Unfortunately...I would bet these were deer hunters

BTW....(since we are on the trails subject)...IMO...Those big tire bikes should pay for a trail sticker too...if they are allowed to use the snowmobile trails

I think more recently the RR grade trails program looks to put the entire RR Grade ROW as designated public trail use.
I'm most familiar with the Nicolet state Trail that runs from north of Green Bay to the UP. I don't believe there are any private owners along its route. Same with the Wolf River trail which is a grade from Crandon south. Both of these grade trails are newly completed in the past 10 years. As far as MI goes, wasn't there a big problem a few years back in the Marquette area on I think tr. 8 where an owner along the grade felt they had the right to block it? Hopefully all new grade trails are in public ownership so as to not have one disgruntled land owner wielding enough power to stop all progress. I am sure that is one reason for making the newly developed grade trail public ownership along with the possibility to revert back to the railroad and rails in the future.

I'd like to know if the local club was given a chance to remedy the damage or was it just summarily jerked away???. Our club has always stepped up and either repaired damage caused by sleds ...and/or....MOSTLY others or paid for repair or crop loss, tree loss etc. Sounds like there was no effort made unless we don't have the full story....just the negative version.

SCUMBAGS for sure I actually don't own a 4 wheeler actually I own a 3 wheeler lol anyways it seems like for some reason they think they deserve to be able to ride where sleds do in the winter and it affects us all in a big way. I mean we all know there's signs and all that and I'm sure there are plenty of land owners that call local law enforcement. At our 40 up by newberry we had guys on atvs back there and we blocked them in and called the cops took them just shy of an Hour to get there and all he did was tell them to not come back and gave them each a minor violation ticket I think one guy didn't have a helmet and some other stupid stuff. We were pissed to say the least. So from that stand point I understand why landowners give up eventually and close there land . Sadly people will continue to brake the law and go on it no matter what's put in there way our neighbor put huge boulders in ever path that leads onto his property and steel spikes fences all sorts of signs. But he also has at least 100 acres or so and he still has people getting onto his property...... a $$holes.
