Any 4 seater rzr owners out there? Looking for advice.

Well this might be in the wrong category but I may buy next week so I'm looking for a bit of advice.

I have found a 2013 rzr 4 800 LE model for 14,499 plus tax, so hear in MIchigan it's gonna be about $15,300 OTD. I have also found a 2012 xp 4 900 with 550 miles on it for $14,200 plus tax or about $15,000 OTD no EPS though.

Most of my riding is trail riding where average speeds are say 20-30 mph or so. My main concern isn't top speed but having the power to periodically slide around a corner on the trails. My wife and i love to go out with my two boys 10 and 5 yrs old.

I guess I'd like the newer one, the 800, but does the 800 4 seater have enough power to be going say 15-20 down the trails and kick the rear end out around a corner for a little powerslide hear and there? I drove the 800 2 seater and I thought that rocked. I also drove the 900 4 seater and that was crazy fast. but I've never driven the 800 4 seater and the big thing is will I be giving up a bunch of "low end snap" with a 4 seater with two kids with us? I'm not looking to drive crazy but just bust out the rear end hear and there.

Any ideas?

much appreciated

So you think the price of the 2013 800 is the same as the 2012 900 you'd go with the 900 even since it has 500 miles?

Thanks,

You do give up a lot on the 800 when its loaded up with poeple. The 800 is a parallel twin so it doesnt have a lot of torque. The 900 has 180 degree crankshaft makes a lot more torque. The transmission and rearend are a lot more durable on the 900 than the 800.The 800 diffys scare me for 4 seaters.I went through a bunch of diffys when I raced my 800 years ago.The 900 engine is built better the 800 is a real cheezy engine.
900 all the way

I love our 2012 xp 4 900 the low end is way better the the 800. have about 250 miles on it this fall. the power of the 900 is nice on the roads we need to run to get to the trails. I have our xp 4 back in IL doing some mods this winter new UTV cage,seats,3"padded harness, LED light bars, 3/8 full skid. i will post some pic's when i get back home. were up at the cabin hoppen, for snow, come on john.

Seriously, an 800 vs. a 900 with a $300 differential & the newer one has EPS (Electronic Power Steering). If you cant find enough power to slide a corner with the newer 8 with EPS, maybe you should consider the 1000 cc Wildcat. Yes, it's about 4 grand more, but, whether those 2 rear seats have your 2 kids in them or they have 2 grown adults in them, it's gonna slide any corner you choose..... Just kidding of course. My .02 is the newer 800 with EPS, even though I'm not a big fan of the "other brand". Again, just kidding, maybe...LOL! Though, I think you have really answered your own question.-Mezz

thanks again, I do like the look of the wildcat. If it was the same price I'd snag it up but.....

Maybe Mezz will pony up 4 big ones for me and then the cat will MEOW in my yard.

i have the xp4 also, had a 800 before and the 800 is lacking in power when you load it up with people, i dont think you'll be powersliding with the 800, the 900, no problem. the power steering is nice, but you can add that later if wanted..

I would look at the Kawasaki Teryx 4. It does not look like a LIMO in the woods. The Cam Am looks even longer.

the cage is new from UTV,inc we had a rzr 4 800 that got crashed out on the gay sands by my son & buds and the 800 cage folded up and bent the frame. I got very lucky nobody got hurt! So when we got the new xp4 I decided to put a cage like all the guys out west do that run the desert. Once I started the Mods I got a little carried away and did the LED lights, full belly pan, seats/ rear bench for the kids & dog and 3" padded 4point belts . All that meant No new sled this year but at this point looks like a good call. the Keweenaw is a blast for the UTV,s we also have a commander xt1000 and love to have friends & family up to the cabin. we run from White city to Highrock bay and everywhere between. if you get the xp 4 and need a roof let me know I have a stock Polaris roof i will make you a sweet deal on. i Think "ahh, watch this" was what happened out on the gay sands with the rzr800.
