Any Idea's on no Power@ 6000RPM Polaris 500 xc

We just got back from a Fantastic 4 day trip up in the UP in the Curtis area.

My problem: In the woods I was fine, rapping and throttle up to speed out of the turns.unless I needed to accelerate running around 50 mph @ 6000 RPM. At this point when I nail it I have no power. It would take time to build up and seemed to start to go once around the 7000 RPM.

Now I did replace my 4 bearings and added a new track this year.

We checked out the clutches before the trip seemed ok..Is this a secondary clutch issue?

Any ideas be appreciated.

What year? if ves, bellows could be clogged. Could be a compression, clutch, fuel, electrical issue really anything.

It is a 1999 500 XC....Been sledding a long time and think it's in the 2ndary clutch.

Sled performs good if you rap it and don't fall into the steady 6000rpm range.

Plastic ramp buttons probably worn & spring fatigued

I usually replace BOTH primary & secondary clutch springs at the beginning of EACH season

X2 on the ramp buttons. on the secondary, had this happen to me. i should have checked them, buttons were worn excessively and ended up damaging the helix.

TX..I have buttons and a spring on order. mmm Thinking out loud.... Polaris doesn't have a rebuild kit.But an Off brand I saw 1 kit that had the intersleve/bushing and buttons. Should I replace the intersleve/bushing also or wait until I get the clutch out and check to see if there is sloop in that area? Or is this a must/recommended replace part also?

Wait until you dis-assemble it

bushings are USUALLY ok

My guess is the plastic ramps will be worn down to the aluminum.

While you have the secondary apart, LIGHTLY sand the aluminum sheaves with 180 grit sandpaper/emery cloth PERPENDICULAR to the way the belt rides, and wipe down with lacquer thinner or Brake-Clean.

Ditto for the primary clutch sheaves, replace spring there as well.

I have a thread of TECH TIPS on here with a lot of tips you may find helpful, will bring it to the top for you
