Anyone else have the "pleasure" to use Windows 8?

Hopefully we can keep the software brand thing out of this. Keep on track with WIN8 like & dislikes very informative at least to me.:)

Well in that case, none of those apps we use work with windows 8 yet! haha, especially the ford stuff...

Very simple to run a VM (virtual machine) and it can run any OS. So if you have software that wont work in win 8 and you do not want to buy upgraded version of the software, this is the way to go. There is always a work around. Yeah it can be a pain but it is part of the evolution of computing.

I'm trying to figure out why I still have a pc. My current pc is getting to the replacement time before I open next year and I am not sure why I will buy another one. It seems that the Microsoft issues just keep repeating themselves...slow boot up times, memory hogging software, bloated security software, and MS deciding that every 3 years or so I need to buy a new OS that will, in 6 months, deliver the same problems which I will address by buying a new pc with more memory to handle the same problems of 5 years ago.

Here is what I am thinking of doing:
My e-mail is gmail
Move business e-mail to gmail
Dump MS Office for Google docs
Move to the web enabled version of my reservation program
Move to the web enabled version of Quickbooks
Use Dropbox to share non Google files between all my devices, it will be my hard drive
Use Pandora and Spotify for music and retire the 2TB music drive (I can hook it up to the stereo)
Buy a nice Samsung 10.5 HD tablet, turn on the wireless and go to work!

OK, you resident geeks! Where is the hole in my logic? I really could use some input on this because I cannot find a problem.

Thanks!

I am a Quickbooks Pro user. I used the online verson for a year when it was launched. Then they jacked the price up so much it was not worth it.
You might want a device with a keyboard. If you are going google cloud, take a look at the Chromebook. There is a Samsung and Acer version. Stick with Samsung. The extra 50$ is worth it.

Buggy? MS leveraged beta testing for quite a long time on this one. I am sure there will be some issues but nothing that will not be addressed with patches.

Slow boot time? Windows 8 running with at least 8GB of Ram and a solid state hard drive, boot times are under 10 seconds.

Bloated Anti Virus Sortware ? Microsoft Security Essentials is not bloated like the norton aor crazy man Mcaffee software. MS Essentials is free and works best as far as I am concerned.

Needing more memory - memory RAM costs are minimal compared to the past.

Maybe I should try to get a job at MS lol! If I sound like a MS sales man I am sorry. I actually am more of a believer of what Google has believe it or not.

To bad you did not check with Dell outlet center before buying. Could still get all kinds of refurbished Win7 machines cheap. I buy most my computers through them over the
past 10 years. Really love my Dell XPS 730x. Most recent purchase was last year when I bought a new Dell XPS 17 laptop that had the same power as my desktop.

Nothing except I find Skydrive a little easier to use and more intergrated with Windows then Google docs. And If you have a live account, you get web Word, Excel, and Outlook so you might be less likely to run into complatibility issues sharing docs with others. I thinking the same way but instead of buying storage from someone I would use a sandbox Sharepoint on the web for my office data run on a Mac Pro. The only problem I have with this idea is I like the good old fashion tapes for backup.

I use google docs at work and it is OK but has its limitations and quirks. If you want free office software, get a free download at openoff.org - it is basically an Office knock-off.

And what of those pesky business applications that force (at least our business) to use Winxp/7 and IE8/9? Maybe Johns webcam doesn't work with OSX either.

Yes you have a great point , what we did is turn the Mac 20% PC to run them. Like excel , word ,PowerPoint We use it for Heating&cooling payroll and I cloud

If the computer has windows 8 professional on it you can load windows 7 at no cost, you just need a copy of the software.

Try this instead: http://www.openoffice.org

The 2003 edition of MS Office Professional was the last one I used; I switched to Open Office when MS needlessly changed the look and feel of the next version of MS Office Professional! I have been using Open Office ever since. It works quite well, and you can't beat the price!
