A couple years back in Minoqua area, my buddy got a ticket for noise. The DNR had enough nerve to tell us that the locals hate snowmobilers. We will never go back to Wisconsin again to ride all because of that remark. Oh well, there loss, the U.P. is far better riding anyway.

Not Yet have a haulk perf. exaust on my apex just waiting !! I added turn downs and extra baffels so the darn thing Quieted down but its still in leagal limits before and after !! Man did that sled sing at high RPM'S my fellow club members can hear me cracking on the throttle 5 miles away ,they were not happy with me before i added turn down's and 1 1/2 inch baffels in the pipes now it sounds more toned down . i did have a cop or two check out my sled as i wizzed by them i was gone before they could even pull there starter rope or turn there key .

Two years ago at Trackside, they refused to even look at my buddy's 03 REV because he a can on it, they told him the local's were sick of sleds with loud pypes and were supporting them by refusing to work on his sled.

You guys should know by now we lose private land access due to loud pipes. I don't think I would ride thru downtown Eagle River, WI with loud pipes. Trackside made the right call to not promote loud pipes in town. I don't care what you do but find loud pipes difficult to talk over at gas stops.

it is not the pipes it is the people driving the sleds stock or mod if you are driving in a populated area on a stock sled wide open you look and sound like a ••••••• if you have a modern pipe and can on your sled and are not driving like a ahole in residentials no one will ever know.I have driven buy many a cop sitting on the side of the trail in MN WI and the UP and never been stopped and I have always modded my sleds. and yes I have been to eagle river many times during the derby with a aftermarket pipe and can and never been stopped and driven buy dnr guys it is not luck it is about being respectful of where you are and the new pipes and cans are not much louder at all till after 3/4 throttle

Here's a link to this topic that has been discussed a LOT on another site:

http://snowest.com/forum/showthread.php?t=169992

I've had aftermarket cans on half my sleds and honestly I try to buy the quietest, lightest one I can. I did own a sled about 13 years ago with twin pipes and stingers that I rode on the trail for a winter - it was REALLY, REALLY obnoxious - and I regret that now. You could hear that sled from many miles away and my ears would ring for a few hours after riding it. I didn't care then about upsetting the neighbors because my mentality at the time was "hey Harleys are this loud all summer, why can't I make some noise too". Now the trails I used to ride through peoples front and backyards with that sled don't exist anymore - did I have something to do with that? Maybe, but everyone seemed to have loud exhaust so it wasn't my fault...or was it?

Lets be a part of the solution not the problem. Don't buy aftermarket parts to be the loudest guy out there. Make an effort to support the companies that try to build components for your sled that improve performance/lighten weight but don't increase the sound levels. Loud pipes don't "save lives" on your sled - they just lose trails for the rest of us who try to follow the rules.

yep borderstaff I allow sleds to access lake trail thru my land & don't have a problem with it since the neighborhood has been very well behaved all good people. One loud piped sled thru late at night & it would be over & a pissed off wife too.
