Arctic cat cougar wont idle...

Im workin on a sled for my neighbor an i cleaned the carbs all out they are nice an clean but i cant get the sled to idle. when i had the sled running i noticed like gas and or oil was around the clutch side. the belt hard had a nice line all the way down it an it was gas an oil i believe. It looks more like the base gasket is junk or is it probaly the seal? and if either of them were junk would it still start up run around the yard but not idle?

Yes if either one was bad it would still run. Spray around the suspected areas with wd40 while the engine is running and see if you get any RPM fluctuation. Good luck.

I assume you cleaned the pilot jet real good. But did you blow out the passages beyond it? Also check the air scew setting 1 1/2 out good place to start. You didn't say what year cat this was, that info would help too.

O.K. forgive me here but I am a little lost with your post. I read it a couple of times but still a little confused, it runs (but not good) and you have something on the belt?? As far as the fuel bit look at your fuel lines real good. I had one once that the fuel line was close enough to the clutch that when reved would rub the clutch and eventually wore a hole in it. As far as a base gasket or seal, it might run but it won't for long. If wd-40 aint donin anthing to change the speed try some starting fluid, just be careful around the muffler.

most of the cougars I have met just need a pack of Virginia slims and a pitcher of manhattans to get warmed up and ready to purr

dident get around to the sled today had some other projects i did ride it around a bit an it ran good just still would not idle. so its one and a half turns out with screws?

sounds like we have the same issue 2001 xc sp 600 my choke cable is extremely loose as the two nuts that hold it tight almost fell off! If I hold the cable up tight by hand mine will idle fine! problem is tightening the nuts as 10mm and have to have a wrench on both top and bottom! dont have any stuubys and going to see if I can find one will let you know once I get tightened if that took care of it!

Yes 1 1/2 turns out is a good starting point and should idle at that setting.
Choke plungers must seat in the bores or it will not idle as mentioned here already
Carb boots could be cracked. Spray these also to check for air leaks. Good luck.
