Artic Cat Clutch Problem?

I have a 2006 CFR6 with about 3,000 miles on it. It has been trail only for me. Last february after riding in that 20" of wet snow in B. Junction I noticed the belt squeels when I am almost at a stop. What do you think? Primary rollers and weights? Looking for any input. I have worked on clutches before but don't want to tear it down if I don't have to. Thanks.

Hate to ask anything so basic, but since it is the belt squealing did you clean the clutch sheaves with brake cleaner? Did you change out the belt?

First things first, as dcsnomo suggests, try a new belt and clean your sheaves. If you noticed it after the heavy snow, there is a good chance you just "glazed" the belt. You can even try cleaning the belt in warm soapy water and scuff the side of it with a scotch brite pad. Do the same to your clutch sheaves. If that doesn't take care of it, you next have to check deflection, as a squeal is usually a sign of a belt that is too tight. Also, I would check your motor mounts to see if they are torn/worn out. This will allow the motor to flex and throw off your alignment/deflection.

Good luck!

I would remove the plastic sheave adjuster on the driven clutch that holds the stack of washers, remove one of the thin washers and reinstall the plastic sheave adjuster and the belt squeel should be gone. Never hurts to clean things up as mentioned by the others.

I have not tried anything yet. I was trying to get some good input first. I will try everything mentioned above starting with the sheave cleaning and belt change then the secondary washer removal last. If that does not work I guess I will go for the primary. THANKS for the input folks.

At 3,000 miles it would not hurt to check the pins & bushings in the primary, the bushings are probably starting to get sloppy, but, I don't think that is the cause of the problem you describe. It is probably your belt, by what you describe is sounds to me like it may have worn hard in the wet heavy snow, pull the belt off check the sheaves for debris, clean & replace the belt.-Mezz

the mag side motor mount is not a bad sugestion look close on both sides you are lucky if you got 3k on it.not that it has a lot to do with your issue but somthing you should look at and if it is bad replace with one from a sno pro race sled mount same yr harder rubber.
fyi the bdx belt deflectin bolt thing works alot faster than the stock with having to pull washers add washers etc etc think less than 18bucks

Thanks for all of the replies. I did some work on the sleds yesterday and the belt was "glazed". I installed a new belt after cleaning up the clutch and all is well. I think I will still go through the primary and check the mag side mount also as erza said. Thanks again.
