My 9 tower clutch is shot on a 1998 ZR500. I am buying a new 6 tower replacement. My ? is, are the weights for a nine tower and six tower the same and also is the spring the same? I have both spring and weights (new) in the shop and would like to save a couple of bucks if it all works out. Thanks for the replies.

Clutch Swap

I would have rebuilt the nine tower except it has some stress fractures in the aluminum. I did not think the nine towers were available anymore. The way I ride (trails only and my age)the six tower should hold up ; and this sled is a back up for break downs anyway. Thanks for the input.

The spring and weights are totaly interchangeable between the 6 and 9 tower. The 6 tower is plenty strong for your application. The 6 tower was designed to reduce weight.

I just replaced my tower 9 with the tower 6 on my 174hp thundercat you will have no issues at all as a mat of fact it actually looks stronger than original and mirrors the polaris design very closely. Contact cat deals on internet they did a great job helping me out and cannot say enough about them

Buy another 9 post, 6 posts are weaker

BS, The 6 post is a better design lighter and last longer. Then throw in the fixed pin version and you have a clutch that does not wear out the flyweight bushings and shims, that eventually take out the spider.

Also ever notice that the Polaris clutches are 6 post designs, always have been. There is a reason for that.
