I have 2006 cat with the diamond drive. I want to change the fluid. I have heard of guys flushing and refilling the drive. What are you flushing with? Also I have seen the total tear down and parts cleaning, reassemble and fill which I am leaning towards. Looking for some input. Thanks.

the 06 DD id very EZ to pull apart and inspect clean and reinstall 1st time 2 hr after that less than 1 hr.
things u need are all your socket extensions and poss your neighbors.
u need to stick them in to the drive shaft on break side to remove bolt holding shaft on to DD .
then pop the clutch
then pop out the rubber block between DD and bulk head hiden nut under that block.
then pull all nuts holding DD to bulk head.
then pry out
when sort of out fish out wire and un plug
bring to bench
un bolt dd and split
prob need to get a screw driver to pry around.
pull off top take a mental note
pry big c clip holding lower gears and plate in place
pull gears
inspect % pinnion gear very close it is the week link
inspect seals for leaks
clean out drive well I use break cleaner and rags
put gears back in
use permatex to make a gasket
bolt back together
fill with fluid
reinstall
if having issues getting back in just work in when moving track back and forth it will go.

If you can get your hands on the November 2012 issue of Snow Goer, page 48 has an article on how to do what ezra describes with pictures. Man, that seems like a lot of work to change your oil every year. If you don't have the magazine, let me know your email address and I will scan and email it to you.

Sounds like lots of work but actually Ez.the o7 o8 are a pain to remember where all that stuff goes.
I prob do 8 to 10 a yr for guys around my parts who don't want to know how to do it.
Not a bad way to make 100 bucks a hr after work to put in my sled trip jar .
I can do all the bearings clean and new seals reinstall in about 1.5 hr.
Most guys don't want to get oil on there hands for 200 bucks

U want real pita work try changing the pr of bearings on the break side

The key to making the diamond drive last is to pull it apart, clean and inspect. Very simple job. Anybody with the most basic of mechanical aptitude can do it. Don't bother with the flush, just pull apart, inspect and clean everything with brake clean like ezra stated.

I had a 2006 crossfire with the diamond drive. I always pulled mine to flush and clean it. There is a good thread on the Hard Core Sledder site with pictures and step by step instructions on how to do it that I used the first time. It is really very easy to do, probably takes about an hour to pull and re-install. I hope I didn't break any rules by post that site on here, that was not my intention, just trying to help out a fellow rider.

I'll tell you what i followed that thread on HCS and it was so easy that i felt stupid for thinking that is going to be impossible. Remember to not lay the DD down, or oil will flow out the secondary spine, learned that the hard way. My DD is off a 2011 Crossfire, very easy to do, took about an hour and the half.

Almost 8000 miles on 06 XF-700 and about 4500 miles on 09 XF-800 with AC flush fluid and AC lube. Never had one apart; but had the one out of the 06 as I had to replace the speedo sensor. Wasn't hard to remove at all.

some will last with little maintenance some go boom the 04 to 06 are the best.but know this when it goes it goes big like all new drive big 80% of the time if u get lucky you will come to a stop try to start and it wont move..
I have a bud with 8k on his f7 I have taken it apart 4 times and found no bad parts.I have pulled them apart on sleds with 400mi on them and the oil was full of brass from the 5 pinion shims just a shake of the dice.
at minn u need to drain and look for shavings.
thing about drain and flush is u will never get all the flush out.will it hurt it prob not but how can it not break down the oil some?
I dont know every one has there own trip. I for one have been in the boonies when one blew and it sucked. was better to just ride 2 up out and replace in the woods the next day.if u can find one

I even farmed that 1 out.... did it one time in my F6 and the 2nd time had my shop budd do it. Went through 2 sets in 10k, I dunno why but I'm big on chains & bearings & bending driveshafts.... plus that area will take you down & out on a road trip if it fails.... Of course " boondocking " up rocky powerlines in the WUP has it's consequences.....

Now what were we talking about ???? The snow must be coming, i'm getting excited....

Thats what motivated me to do my own, the local dealer wanted 5 bills to do what I did in an 1.5 hours. I also changed my track, but still, it was ridiculous for how much they wanted. I guess people are willing to pay it.

Did you change out the bearings? I'm doing that with mine in the next few weeks.
