asphalt drags

Went to US 131 dragway in SW lower MI fri for test and tune. We took my sons modded 5.0 mustang and had a great time. There were some guys running two XCR800's sleds--looked like a blast. I have a 02 Yam viper and want to convert so I can actually do something with this thing in the summer. Anyone know any Yammie asphalt shops or places that have parts for this application? Used stuff would even be better to start out with.

basically you will need the ski w/wheels (a few have modded snow skis but I would not suggest it), an asphalt track (no lugs) which will get you on the track to see if you want to do more.

Two things to check is, find out if you have to run w/o coolant and use just water, we had to at Union Grove Wi/NSSR since we had no real overflow tank (at least that is how I remember it, may be different now) so we used straight water and a cool down unit that can be fabbed from basic parts. The other is a tether, newer sled have it but older ones didn't BUT it was one requirement.

The rest is all setup related, clutching, carbs, suspension. It really depends on how much you get into it. We got deep into it running the IHRA Summit series and was a big investment at least in respect to us, more so with time, but when overtime dried up my racing cash did as well. I can tell you it was fun and I do miss it and sometimes think about taking it out of the shed for a few runs...

Go to your local track and ask them for requirements. If it is a test and tune or bracket track for sleds they will probably not be as critcal on specific equipment. That is where you will probably be for a year at least (test&tune and getting comfortable). It is a awesome rush. I did it for 3 years with NSSR/NHRA and it is addicting as deep powder and illegal drugs!!! Hauck Power Sports is a good place to start with ?'s. This is my ride that I just put up for sale. Built it 2 years ago and then got Mama pregnant. She didn't say it had to go but no one is using it. Have fun!!!!

doo dr...It was nice to see pics of your sled. I was running a POL XLT SP and bought that same exact sled to 'go faster'. I bought it used and planned to run it for one winter and then convert it (also bought an inline trailer for easier loading) and then let the wife run the 600. I was just starting to contact Jamie Bellman for info and possible parts to build up that F3 (I just checked online and it is good to see he is still involved as I saw an article about his race clutches). Right after I bought all that that is when things dried up, not to mention we had bought a boat the previous year that hardly got any use. If we weren't racing we were testing/wrenching.

Last year i foundout there is a big asphalt following still left in lower MI that I wantedto check out but never made it and even on the east coast they even had a 'series' (I think it was NY).
