Thanks Attak Man - your reports were spot on from last week.
I dropped Friday afternoon on the north end of the willow flowage. Took a heading to the west from there. The trails were a 10/10. Headed over towards phillips. Between Bucksnort and heading west. That area for some reason was terrible. 2' studder bumps the whole way. I turned back. Took a heading south from there towards Bomba bar. At my gas fill up talked to a guy and he said the Harrison Hills area was good. He was right - The trails in that area were so good, I did loops. Ended up heading back north from there through Lake Nokomis area. The bearskin was okay, but not great. Back to the cabin by 5:30 with a quick 170 miles logged on.
Saturday got an early start with on the trail by 8. Did a loop to the east of the cabin that runs along 51. Very nice trails there. Ended up swinging for a gas stop in Tripoli. Wow!!! Best trails I have ran all year long. Really should have turned around and did that trail again that runs just north of Tripoli. Then started to work our way back. Again the area to the west of Willow Lake was just beat up and rougher than snot. Northeast of bucksnort - that whole area a 9/10.
Logged on total for 2 partial day runs was 280ish miles. Of that, 200 were an 8.5/10 or better. Maybe 10-20 miles in the 3 or 4/10.
The ride back Saturday afternoon with the truck and trailer were a bit harry at times. In one particular place, there was a very slippery bridge. I saw the truck in front of me do a little skid - so I slowed down. As soon as I hit the bridge I felt both my truck and trailer sway, but with not touching the gas or brake, I essentially kept a straight forward pace. 3 other cars were not so lucky. Just remember, bridges ice over before roads. I usually throttle prior to a bridge, but back off when going over just to coast, especially when pulling a trailer.
One other note - the deer are coming back strong in the northwoods. In my ride must have seen about 40 or so. And lots of wolf tracks too.
