I’m looking into a backpacking trip from Land O Lakes,WI to Hancock,MI then to Ironwood,MI January 13th - 15th. Is there any recommendations on route or wet spots to look out for? Also looking for ideas on places to stop for Food and gas.

I'm sure you'll get plenty of responses and lots of different routes one could take. Not the most direct routes but you could do:

3N to Watersmeet, 2E to 107N to 8E and a stop in Sidaw
From there take 109N to 12W towards Rousseau and stop at the bar there
12 into Mass City where you can pick up 3 torwards Houghton...or take the long route which is the 13 loop that drops you in twin lakes. Either way, stop at Omer's before you motor 3 into Houghton.

Way back to Ironwood...3S and then pick up 13 either in Twin Lakes (if you didn't do it the day before) or in Mass City.
Shortest route is 13S to Bergland and 8W to Wakefield to 2W to Ironwood.
Longer route is 13S to 101N to 12 into White Pine (stop and eat/gas at Konteka). From there go 1N to Silver City, Lake of Clouds and 11S which is a highway to 102S. Then hit pick up 8W to to Wakefield to 2W to Ironwood.

I like the maps from here to help figure out mileage: https://msasnow.org/trail-report/

Enjoy...and report back!!!

If you go up 3N north of Watersmeet make sure to stop at Bond Falls. It's right off the trail and well worth it. My preferred place to stay in Hancock is the Ramada. I like the fact that the bar and restaurant are in the hotel. For breakfast on day 2 you could wait till you get back to Twin Lakes and get a pasty at Krumps along with fuel for your sled also.

Agreed on Bond Falls, there is a sign on the trail this year as a marker. FYI; "if riding north you will be on a section of trail on a road, look for a sign to the right (the trail goes left).

No argument here, solid advice and great trails.
If It is cold or getting dark I will take Trail 8 West (instead of East) on through Bruce Crossing and take a right on 3 North (2 miles past Bruce's) and all the way to Houghton.

Is that gas station little bit north of Krupps open yet this year? I think it opened at the end of the season if I remember right

Yes, it is open as of 1/7/20. I drove by and sleds/cars were partaking.
A quick web search shows this number 906-288-3225.
