I have used the same hitch setup on my trailer for years and have never had this problem... The problem I am having is that the ball wont go all the way up in the ball mount on the trailer its being stopped by the latch that locks it in. Any ideas on what to do?

tried it... the latch seems to not be coming down all the way or moving back I have forgotten which way it moves...

It has to be the latching mechanism inside the coupler. You may have to tap on it, it is propably rusted and not disengaging completely. When it does go on, latch it and remove and put it back on a few more times and then spray with a lube.

Sometimes if you move your car or truck a little it will fall into place. Its really not set is why it wont clamp on I dont know why if it fit before and dosnt now. But in the coupler up underneath there is a adjusting bolt that you can set to how much pressure you want the lever to take to lock on the ball

That's works for me with the camper. If I were you, I'd just go buy a new coupler. That's what I did with mine since I rarely use it. They go for like $20-30.00. Just make sure to keep it greased. I use the white spray grease a couple times a year.
