have you tried legendary waters resort and casino red cliff, just north 3 miles of bayfield, real nice looking hotel, but probably a little pricey, would think they would have the trail there

IMO....unless you REALLY wanted to stay here, it's not a place that gives one good options for trails. One way out then at the next junction, only two ways to go.

The Garmisch looks like a very nice place... Thank you Special K for the tip!

Been staying on Lake Namakegan since 1992. Best thing about this area is you can go on trips in all directions. Snow permitting of course. We just pick a different direction each day and run it. That area is nice in that there are so many trails that you can make circuitous routes and never have to ride the same trail to and from wherever you are going. The Garmisch has always been a very nice place. We have been staying at the Lakewoods the past few years and that is OK also. Not as fancy as the Garmisch but it works for us. If you have not been there for 15 years you will notice that a lot of places have either changed hands or closed. But there are still literally 100s of places to eat and drink in this area. Also you don't have to worry about running low on gas as there are no great distances between stops. You can easily ride to Bayfield from the Garmisch if you still want to go there. As I stated before there is ususally good riding north of hwy 2.
