Belt Squeel

I have a 1998 ZR500 Cat. When stopping the sled the belt sqeels and it wants to chug through a stop sign. The belt does not disengage. I was told to remove a shim or two from the secondary clutch to let the belt ride lower in the shivs thus giving the belt more free play. Other than that the sled runs great. Is this accurate? Thanks for your comments.

Yes, sounds like your belt is a smidge tight and just needs a simple adjustment of the secondary clutch shims.

It could also be that the bushings are worn in the clutch weights, and the clutch is not disengaging.
