Just want to hear what you guys are running for ice scratchers and which seems to work best! I have heard many good things about Slidekicks, and a few negative, also heard guys say drilling a hole in the back of the ski and putting a bolt works just as good?? So any info would be great, thanks

Tried the Slidekicks and they were terrible on my two M8s, not enough down pressure.

Went back to the inventor of the concept, Holz, and have been running them since 2005. In the past I've tried the less expensive knock-offs that are available on the market but you generally get what you pay for in life.

Bolts through the skis might work for pure trail riding; I wouldn't want to catch one on an offtrail stump, railroad track crossing or the bridge at Houghton-Hancock.

I've had no complaints with the Slidekicks on my Summit. Kicks up plenty of ice/snow. They did re-engineer them to create more down pressure a couple years back.

Can any of you tell me how they changed the Sidekicks? I know when they first came out they did not work for s**t. I love the concept if they work now. Especially with reverse.

Okay Andy, what they did was change to a stiffer cable. They use a logging type cable instead of an aircraft grade cable (or vice versa). I called the owner before I ordered and he explained it to me. Mine have a black coating. the white or clear coating cable is not as stiff. Also the mounting of the angle off the rail is very important. The instructions have plenty of pics for you bud. I love them and run them down all the time in MI. The backing up part always wrecks the coat hanger wire type. They only cost about $10 more. Doug has used them longer than me and they work great on his doo or my Pol.

ski scratchers

There is a thread on snow west about mounting a bolt through the tail end of your skiis. Sounds like a cheap way to get some snow to fly into the track. I'm going to try it out.

I've posted on here or Misc. about this. Do a search for scratchers... you'll find some more threads.

But I use the Holz Racing version with great results. Just have to remember to pull'em up if you need to use reverse.

Well After talking with a few people and then talking to the owner of the Slidekicks company I placed an order for a pair. Really sounds like this 3rd generation works pretty well! I will write back after I get them on and see how they work! Sounds like it will be a week or 2 before they get here as they just finished making another batch and are going fast! Thanks for the info guys!

Money well spent. I didn't bother installing the holders for them. I just set them on top of the rail when not in use.
