Big Spring

Last year when we rode towards Big Spring from Grand Marais the snow started getting thin around Jack Pine so we didn't continue on to Big Spring and I know the LES generally doesn't carry that far, and with the upcoming warm up I was curious if anyone has ridden to the area of Big Spring and how the snow conditions are that way. heading...HOPEFULLY... to Grand Marais week of 22nd and trying to plan rides/destinations

Last week we never ventured past Bear Trap towards GM. Trail 8 there is Seney’s and when we tried it was not worth riding! That meant we spent the week playing on all trails west including Big Springs. Rode it multiple times taking the “crossover” trail from Jack Pine to Big Springs - beautiful. Haywire, 7 & 8 were great. Should you want to go further south to trail 2 it was open and being groomed but this warm up could impact it. I monitor Schoolcraft groomers and despite the sudden loss of a long time groomsman they are out there daily right now. East of Marquette the snow depth is big. Would routinely see big paddle boys at the gas station saying how they got buried and spent hours digging out.

When we get into next week and can monitor temps and precip, I can update you and Ken. A week from tomorrow we head back for my end of season ride before surgery.

Was looking sketchy at first for week of 22nd but now improving, fingers crossed, Ken won't be up with me then, would have been if going next week, has prior engagements, will be with bud who bought my ElTigre, he hasn't ridden at all this year yet, so hope it pans out that we can, he was pretty bummed at forecast. Luckily his boss is a rider as well and understood so we cancelled and made reservations for the week of 22nd. I've got 1300 miles in so far this year so won't be too hurt if doesn't pan out but would feel bad if he can't ride. Hoping for not much damage with warm up and maybe some refreshing snow after, fingers and toes crossed! some boots on the ground reports would be greatly appreciated! going to be studying the maps you sent me again
