I am curious if any of you have been out to the Black hills to ride. Is the off trail good out there, as far as deep snow like in the U.P. If you have suggestions on where to stay ot what to do that would be great.

Oh yes can be deep powder play grounds & good trails but snow comes & goes with temp & elevation. Freeking long boring drive for sure! Don't stop at Walldrug but signs are entertaining lol.

Snow does come and go with temp and elevation but when they have it ---GO. Great riding and 10 hours driving less than "out west". 350 miles of trails and plenty of "off trail" play areas. Stay at either Deadwood Gulch in Deadwood or out in the middle of everything at Mystic Hills campground (great people) You can check the webcam at Spearfish Canyon Resort (nice but spendy) AND no trail permits required !!!

deff some fun ridding when they have snow.you have a big swing in clutching and jetting 3k to 7k.
deff more open play areas than the up but still lots of trees and hills if you like that.
but like every place in the lower 48 a bust for snow right now

Leave everything stock. Its about 6K max elevation. Use clickers to fine tune. No jetting on etec.
We were out there a few years back when they got 65 inches in April. WHAT A BLAST!!!

Thanks guys, just thinking of some other places to go, to give me that "western" feel. Any good reasonable places to stay at out there?

Only been out there a couple of times but had a really good time on both trips. As others have said, the snow can be on and off. When we were out there in the late 90's, they had a 100" snowfall within a couple of days after we left. Honest to God.

On one trip we actually stayed at a working ranch not far from Flag Mountain Lookout. Rode across the pasture and on to the trail. On a previous trip we stayed at the Deadwood Gulch Resort. Great place - in-house casino and the best prime rib I've ever had. Deadwood is pretty cool. Highly recommend a stay there.

Riding can be very good. As far as I know, everything between the trail loops is open for off-trail riding. Great scenery and a lot of rolling meadows. Hope to go back someday.
