Bleezard in the Keweenaw

Wow we are getting nailed. This is nutzo some of the the worst visibility in my recollection.

crazy bad out there. I've been driving up to the Houghton/hancock area for either Tech or work since 1992 and this was most likely the worst visibility I've encountered. The way in was ok but the way home was not good.

I didn't hear a bleezard bleezard call from Mezz so maybe he's had enough too.

Another of my plow guy! I'm very lucky he came multiple times today. The driveway was not there!

I am guessing that the Big Lake is back in business to some degree, as a look at the cams in the area seems to indicate areas favored by a west wind are getting hit the hardest.

This has been the look at our place all day today.

A least another 6", maybe 8", on top of the 6" overnight. If the lake is opening back up for business, we could see some meaningful snow fall for quite some time as conditions look to remain good for it for around 6 days straight.

Personally, I am blaming mezz!

Oh, and by the way, this storm was a total bust!

Great to hear those snow totals, John. I will be up that way tomorrow (now just hoping my parking/unloading spot will be somewhat clear).

Took a little longer than expected, but things started get nasty here around noon. I still don't think it is as bad (right here) as last year's but still nothing you want to be out and about driving in.

Pic 1: Looking down Hwy 41 during a bad gust.
Pic 2: Walking down our street.

The wife works up in Hancock and is on her way home. She said the driving really isn't that bad and said it was much worse a few weeks ago when the LES was coming down none stop. She also said she wouldn't even rank it in the top 10 worst drives (which is good).

Maybe it's a bit better that way... I can say my driveway was plowed at about 2:30ish today. I had a call to go help my cousin, 2 miles away, get unstuck. I could not get out with my Yukon xl in 4wd. buried the bugger about 100 ft from the house. I will admit there wasn't a ton of snow on the road on the way home but I did have to come to a dead stop 2x on the drive home from work and that is never good. Once I got about a mile from Lake Linden and headed towards Gay you cant see your hand in front of your face. My little weather station shows a wind gust to 55 mph. I have regular readings of 40 mph, by far some of my highest readings of the yr. Snow totals not even close to heavy but out here we can get 3" and I can have drifts of 4-5 feet. The unfortunate part is at times like this if you have a need for an ambulance or fire truck it ain't gonna happen, unless they have tracks.

Must not have been as as bad down that way as it was up this way. When I went out to run a few errands at 2, I could not go faster than 25-30 mph. Visibility was around 150 feet at its best and less than 20 at its worse. The roads were actually free of snow as the winds were so strong.

Civil Emergency has been declared. Houghton/Keweenaw Counties are pulling their plows. It took me 3 hours to clear my driveway. Wish I would have used the tractor eagle1, but I only have 1.5 hours left to use on it and something tells me this is just the first of some big storms we are in for in the next 35-40 days. So wanted to save that time, just in case.

I have come to a pretty strong conclusion on the amenities of the tractor I would like to have for next season though! 35-36 HP, hydrostatic drive with a quick change front mounted blower and bucket, cab with HVAC and stereo! It is all I dream about on days like today when I am behind the snowthrower for 3 hours. That and how much nicer it is to be moving snow (even with a walk behind blower) than it is to be laying in a hospital bed with tubes sticking out of me!

Iphone 275.jpg We got turned back about 15-20 miles north of Calumet Friday trying to get to Copper Harbor. Wind and snow so strong there were times you couldn't see the front of the sled.
