Boondock Inn Vintage Sled Event 2026

Loaded up this evening for the 2026 Boondock Inn vintage sled event. At first glance, this shot looks almost identical to the one I took last year, but there is one important difference: There’s a different graduating class in the trailer this year. Look for them and the TX at the show on Saturday.

Two great vintage rides planned for Thursday and Friday and a show on Saturday, Lunch break at the Mosquito on Thursday, if you happen by, look me up. Better yet, swing by and check out the show on Saturday.

Sorry guys, I seem to have lost my internet connection on my laptop and me trying to post photos on my phone is an exercise is futility. I will report that it was a good day. Backcountry to the Mosquito for lunch and back. Guess it was between 40 and 50 miles, which is quite a bit when it comes to off-trail. Not a single breakdown!

Hope you can get it resolved to post a few pics. I have been unable to log in since last Thursday.

I had planned on stopping in at the Top of the Lake museum on my way up to Munising 1 1/2 weeks ago but unfortunately it was raining and no one pulled out their sleds. I see they did later that evening and lots of picture posts on FB.

Between my connection being down and the board being down, I have some catching up to do. Heading for home this morning but I’ll fire off a quick post and add more later.

Day 1 was “Iron Butt” ride day, a 45 – 50 mile backcountry ride that while appropriately named, led through an amazing winter scene. While I usually feel it the next day, I wouldn’t miss this ride for anything.

Have to love these sleds, with or without the Busch stickers. Long tracked and the SRX has a 600 Doo motor. The do go though the deep stuff.

Nice lineup at the Mosquito for lunch. Somewhere around 50 vintage and classic sleds made the ride.

Now, I know why there were so many cool sleds when we stopped for lunch on Thursday.

Didn't know about the ride and it was a mystery seeing them all together.
Yep, that would have been the group. Had to be a flashback, riding into that not knowing what was going on.

The weather for the trail ride on day 2 was spectacular, brilliant sunshine and almost tropical weather. The trail we took for most of the route had been groomed Thursday night and was in incredible condition.

There were a couple of photographers along on the ride the have a FB page called “Wandering Michigan” and they took a bunch of photos. I was able to grab some of these off their page and they really captured the day.

The lunch destination was an establishment called the Church in the Valley. The people there put out a huge spread of homemade food for a whopping cost of $10 per person. The trip there and back made for a solid 45 – 50-mile run.

And yes, that is a tow strap hooked to the Polaris in the following shot. The warm weather may have taken a toll on the sleds (well, maybe except the guy that lost a ski), as several sleds needed a tow.

I knew the free air TX would not be happy about the temps, so the 440 Cyclone got pressed into service. I hadn’t planned to ride this sled much on this trip so I hadn’t done a lot of trail testing. The sled ran well all day but if you look closely at this photo the photographers took, there is something missing on the sled. More on that story in a future update.

As I stated above wife and I are going to vintage show in Plymouth Wi on Saturday, we have a place in Plymouth and I have yet to watch races there or know where the track is, but... on the advertisement depending on conditions you can run the track, they have snow cross races at this facility and evidentially they make their own snow. So not only am I looking forward to the vintage show and swap, but curious to see the facility as well.

Plymouth, eh. I hate summer but love Road America! Had the season pass when I lived in WI. Now just make the IMSA race end of July… (summer su$ks, car races make it tolerable)..

we are literally right across from track, made 4 visits there last year, we also sponsor a sprint car so visit dirt track in town multiple times a season both very nice facilities, like aspect of being able to watch race at Road America from any vantage point with exception to back straights. My nephew works at gearbox too for big events.

Cool. My camping buddies and I take in the Saturday night local sprint when there!

Good guesses but it’s really hard to pick out from this photo so here’s the story and it kind of ties into the Toolbox thread.

At a “rest” break about halfway to the lunch destination, something didn’t look quite right. Then it hit me, one of the outside rear track idler wheels was missing. OK, I thought, I still have one on the other side. A few miles down the trail I checked the remaining idler. It was still there but the fastening bolt was gone. I had no choice but to take it off so I wouldn’t lose that one too. Now I have no outside track idler wheels, which keep the floating rear axle shaft centered. This seems like a problem I've created by not checking the idlers before the ride.

I figured I might be able to find a bolt at the lunch stop and at least re-mount the one idler, although it would have been nice to have had an extra wheel (mentioned in the Toolbox thread).

I made it to the lunch stop but was unable to find a bolt (need to add to toolbox). I thought about just throwing the sled in the sled medic trailer but it was a tough day for sleds and the trailer was already filled with four dead sleds. I had no choice but to ride it back.

One of the guys loaned me a hammer (also mentioned in the Toolbox thread) so I could tap the shaft back to center if it started to walk excessively to one side but it only required one minor adjustment in the 25 miles I rode it that way.

So, my toolbox was lacking some important things you guys came up with.

It looks kind of late model this way but the idlers have to go back on.

My Eltigre and Crosstour didn't have outside idler wheels, unlike your situation they never had them and personally.... I liked the look, bud who bought my Eltigre added the wheel kit and to me...ruined the look but kinda need them there when set up for it LOL
