What size motor? You could start with checking chain tension, track tension, then onto looking at your plugs. If they are rich looking, you could try leaner jets. How bad is "horrible"? Snowmobiles weren't meant to get good gas mileage...

When you say track is good, how good? Try looser than what manufacturers recommend. I run 7/8" sag just sitting on stand. Many run 1" or more. Manufacturers recommend 1" sag with a 10 lb weight hanging from track 16" from rear which comes out to 5/8" sitting there on the stand with no weight added.

It should get more than 80 miles per tank, but that's not actually all that bad. I get about the same with a 99 700 non-ves.

I've got the 02 xcsp edge 600 VES, I have a 144" track on there and I found out this weekend that I can get 90 miles out of a tank and that's the best I have gotten with it, and even with my short track on there it wasn't much better.

Boost Bottle is only going to tear up your boots, don't do it.

Instead install a HOLTZMAN ATAAC, I did it to (5) EDGE's, 600's and 800's

Way more responsive and approx 2-3 M.P.G. more (Seriously)

E-Z less than 1 hour install

We have 2000 and 2005 600's with the power valves. They are both jetted for where we ride. The 2000 averages 12MPG and the 2005 about 13-14MPG during trail riding. Both short tracks. All stock except for jetting.

The both have a 12 gallon tank so if you're comfortable running out 10 gallons that's 120-140 miles. if you're getting 80 miles to a tank you're at about half that mileage. Unless you're in deep snow or WOT all the time, something is seriously wrong. Even when running hard neither sled has dropped below 12MPG.

Clean carbs, clean/rebuild clutches, new drive belt, check chain tension, make sure track is loose enough, replace any bad bearings in the driveline and skid, compression check, clean power valves, correct jetting......time for a full makeover......
