Does anyone know if they are planning on putting the bridge mats down this year, or are we going to be riding on the grating again this year?
And if so, when do they normally get put in?

What you're looking at is the (click →) Portage Lake Lift Bridge, crossing the (click →) Keweenaw Waterway between Houghton and Hancock, MI. (Parts of the waterway are variously known as the Keweenaw Waterway, Portage Canal, Portage Lake Canal, Portage River, Lily Pond, Torch Lake, and Portage Lake.)What is the name of the river? And where does it lead?

ATTENTION SNOWMOBILERS!!
You will not be able to cross the Portage Lift Bridge until after December 15-18th.
We will keep you updated if anything changes with this situation but please help spread the word!
What?
We have always been able to cross with or without mats. Last winter, they had quite a bit going on with construction/refurbishing, but I thought they were done.
Never had a problem last season passing over the bridge even with all the work going on at the time. Are they doing work on the grating this year?
Oh ya der don't cha know!!!!
This is the Keweenaw Snowmobile Trail System Report for Thursday, December 15, 2016.
Snowmobile trails from Twin Lakes to Copper Harbor are open and in fair condition.
You can now cross under the Portage Lift Bridge. The mat is not down yet.
Trail 122 is closed for logging. You can use Trail 124 to get to Gay.
Any trail usage should be done with extreme caution as there are wet spots, rocks, stumps, branches, and other hazards that have not been identified.
Please remember to watch out for the groomers when your're out on the trails. They have the right away.
The Keweenaw Convention & Visitors Bureau asks that you stay on the trails, STAY OFF THE ICE, respect private property, do not drink and drive, and above all else, drive safely. The signs on the trails are there for riders' safety so please DO NOT remove or destroy them.
