The snowmobiles were imported from Finland by BRP US Inc., of Sturtevant. The firm has received three reports of explosions, one involving minor burns to face and hands, the commission said. It's the third recall of Ski-Doo machines since 2008.
The agency said the explosion danger stems from electrostatic charges that can accumulate and spark in the fuel tank when the engine is left idling. The snowmobiles being recalled were sold by Ski-Doo dealers nationwide from March 2004 through March 2010 for $9,000 to $10,000.
A list of model names is available on the commission web site. Consumers should stop using the snowmobiles immediately and contact a dealer for free repairs, the commission said.
Earlier this year BRP recalled 37 imported Ski-Doo snowmobiles because of a fire hazard. »Read Full Article(3)
