Saw this sled burning just north of South Range last week. The rider said his foot was getting hot- he looked down and saw flames. You can see it was a cat -firecat??

jeez thats pretty scary...definitely wasn't a firecat because the exhaust is different, but looks to be a ZR!

Wow.

Wonder if it was a grease fire from the overflow of the muffpot?

That is probably what will happen to mine.

Been there, done that!
A few years back my brother-in-laws sled went up in flames. They burn quick!

Don't forget to tip the snowmobile club when they come out to repair the trail :0 When my summit went up the white pine FD charged a tidy $500 (which insurance paid) and i gave the club $50 do fill in the foot deep hole summit shaped hole i left in south boundary road.
Insurance guys said these fires happen way more than you think.
Sorry about the kitty, hope he is riding again real soon.

That looks to be an Arctic Cat ZR/ZL sled. It can happen because the over time the brake calipers get dirty corroded and cause the brake pads to drag on the disk a bit. Next thing you know after a long high speed run the disk is glowing red and melting all the plastic arround it and poof the oil resivoir leaks and instant fire.

It is a bummer to lose a machine that way, but it happens.
