can sea foam quiet lifters

I got a 2004 jeep with the 4.0 straight six with around 150000 miles on it and when you first start the jeep it runs with no lifter noise then it reaches a certain temp and the lifters start ticking then after full warm up it quiets back down Somewhere i heard if you run a can of sea foam in the oil for a few miles then change the oil it cleans the lifters and stops them from sticking just wondering if anyone has tried it and does it work not too sure of putting in a product that looks like Diesel in the oil.

It made my lawn mower run better.

Don't know if it's the best idea to do now with 150,000 miles, carbon chunks may fall off and clog up oil ports.

4.0 lit jeep

first i would do a oil sample to see if there is any antifreeze in the in the oil .the 4.0 is know to crack the head .the antifreeze in there can really gum things up .if you catch it early you will only have to change the head and clean it out .if not it will wipe out every thing .may not at all be your problem but with the miles and the engines track record i would sample for piece of mind .i have had few of them apart and seen it first hand .if you are not slowly low on antifreeze this is not your problem but just some thing to be aware of.dont want to scare you .just trying to help .

The Jeep 4.0 always seemed a little "rattly" to me. We've owned two. Number one Son crashed our first one with only 120k on it! Blast!

I doubt if Sea Foam will quiet it down.

I do, however, run 1/3 can, in the oil, about 2-300 miles before an oil change. Still comes out pretty dark. But not as dark as 50,000 miles ago.

I wouldn't worry about chunks clogging stuff up. It cleans pretty gradually. Keep in mind that Nothing will scubb it all out. Once the sludge is there, it's there.

We're now at 186,000 miles. Still strong. Still has the same 4.0 rattle, when cold, when we bought it with 64,000 miles on it.

I do know of a number of 4.0's with over 300,000 miles on them. Only maintenance being oil changes, cap, rotor, plugs, starters, & water pumps.

Tranny filter, and flush, is a good idea every 60k too. Love these things!

my harley used to ping and knock when asking for more power even with good gas so i started to run seafoam in the fuel and the knocking was instantly gone.great stuff.

This is the trick for sure..... I'm telling ya.
I'm a sea-soam fan, also but they don't call it Marvel Mystrey for nothing.....

I got 2 16 oz. bottles for free :D I just like that sta-bil has the measuring thing for you. I plop 1/4 oz. into my lawn mower before every fill-up.

I have a light ticking sound on my 2005 ford f150 fx4 I just recently noticed, you really only notice it when at the drive through window when you have the echomoff the building. Could this be the same problem or does anyone know what it would be? The truck has 74,000 on it.

sounds like the same problem I have Tried The Sea foam did not work moving on to Marvel MYSTERY OIL next. From what i have been told carbon and sludge build up in the lifters and do not allow them to move freely so they get stuck and then pop up to meet the push rods after the engine warms up the sludge loosens up an the ticking lessons.I do not know if i buy this .I believe that something has worn out and when the engine warms up the part expands and lessons the gap between the 2 parts ,It will probably need to be torn down but i am willing to try anything before i do that. Keep you posted.

Just try the sea foam first, see what happens and report back. Lol

P1 my red max blower keeps me layin on the the choke too long after start up. Sea foam will help clean the fuel system? Also someone has told me to drain the gas after on two strokes?
