Carbide length

How do I determine what length carbide to put on a sled? I want to put a set of Woody's duals on a 98 Polaris 600 XLT.

And before you guys come back with the Bergstrom recco, I am putting the Bergstrom set up on my Jag this season, the wife gets the Woodys. I want to try both.

And no comments on "my wife gets the Woodys" phrase, this is a family site!

I believe it matters how many picks are in the track. I have 96 right up the middle and use 6" carbides. The more picks the longer the carbides.

shadetree.com has some recomendations for ya....depends on her riding style and amount of studs... i.e. 96 studs and moderate rider 4 or 6 in but and aggresive rider would be more like 6 or 8 inch...

If your're a trail cruiser and don't go over 50, 4 inch will do you fine. But most people aren't like that, i would never buy less than 6

I agree with the other posts , it's a balance thing , 96 studs and 4-6 ' carbide, I would go 96/6 and adjust ski pressure & the strap to make the wife happy with the steering , the stud manu have rec charts. I just want to bring up some observations we have made regarding the dual runner skags. some people might not agree with this but... Here we go. There is the Woody's Dooly and the Stud Boy Duece on the market, we have caught the Woody's Dooly freezing up between the bars and almost 85% sure we can contribute this to a missed turn & crash. My insurance buddy crashed a lawyer, it was his bad he missed the turn. It was such a fiasco at the time that we didn't think to check the ice build up so I can't make that statement for sure ( just for the record ). BUT another family we ride with that are serious sledders had previously brought that freezing up between the bars condition to my attention originally. They are 50% UPer's and will ride extensively. Both friends have swapped out the Dooly's since. I just wanted to mention that, due to the wife having that set-up. The SB Duece is a different design and does not have that condition. Some people that I talk to just swear by them ( Dooly's ) but I have to question wether or not they pay close attention to the ever changing trail conditions they ride on through out the day. ( IMO ) As far as the W/W thing your on your own with that !!!!!

X2 on the Woody's Dooly freeezing up & pushing in turns Duece bar is better. 4" for the wife easy to turn.
