carbides

What's the recommendation for carbides these days. I had bergstroms on my fusion, with the ski savers and shims, and they made it well over 8,000 miles and were still pretty good when I sold it. Have a Cat 137 now. Stock ones have about 2,500 on them now and probably should be replaced. I don't see many posts about carbides. Checked bergstrom's site and got a little sticker shock - they are over $200 now.

The end of last season, after battling adjustments to create front end bite and realizing my gear was shot, I upgraded to C&A skis and Woody's Slim Jim Doolys.
Very pleased with the performance.
Good question.

Stock $80-100 and 2500 miles triple points $200 and 8000 miles when you think of it that way it’s not as painful, and probably would give you better handling also. I honestly like the triple points and I’m sure others will comment. Good luck hopefully you get to use them soon.

found Bergstrom about 6 yrs ago have used nothing since. have them on DS2, C&A and used to run on pilot skis. they make a "good-n-ugly" skeg for less money. Had the wife start on those them switched her to the 6 inch triple. They work fine if you have nothing but good snow, thin snow and dry road will eat them up faster. Both took care of darting and provided great bite in turns. Just look at the amount of material on a Bergstrom compared to others, they wear and ride great. They are a small Company I am assuming since you have to call and order. give them a call they will answer any question you may have.

I’ve been running the Stud Boy 9” dual carbides on all three sleds - approaching 8k on the current primary sled (‘18 XCR Switchback) and see no reason to replace them. Yes, spendy (~$90 each) but worth it to me.

Yeah good point. I did call them and they are running 4 weeks out right now. I may see if I can stretch the stock ones for a bit.

Looks like shaper bars are commonly recommended. Looks like those are around $90.

Holy cow, 8000 miles! You answered your own question. Why change what works? I need to run roads quite a bit to get to a trail, but I can't get any carbide to last more than 2 seasons, usually about 750-1000 miles each year.

Holy cow 8,000 miles and still good with triple points. That’s outstanding for $200. Once upon a time I went cheap on carbides got terrible handling slowed me way down couldn’t keep up with buds even blew a corner on 107 went to a pit and managed to pop back up on trail and wipe crap off seat. Imo never ever question good performance and price of carbides for excellent steering. Triple points are doing the job for ya.

I just bought a set of Ski Doo OEM 4" because they didnt have any 6" in stock. All I can say is wow...hope they last long enough to get it in the trailer.

Only carbide system I found that handles better than triple points is Aggressive Snow Trackers but also $200 and that was for a fleet of Apex xtxs with eps. No idea best snow tracker set up for your sled but maybe you want to research.

Those were a lot of Ontario miles where you aren't crossing roads very often. We are trailering to the snow so we can pick spots last minute before a trip.

Yeah I've seen a lot of talk about those. Seems like people who buy them swear by them but there's also some set up involved. I figure if I'm going to spent the money I'd stick with Bergstroms but if not maybe something like shaper bars. It's a different sled so hard to know. Bergstroms worked well on a hard to turn Fusion.

I'm not sure why I didn't think about them in the offseason. Just noticed they are worn down a bit. Guess I got spoiled with the bergstroms on the last sled.

Another vote for Bergstrom Triple Points we always get well over 10,000 miles out of a set. How many $100. brand X sets would you have to buy to get that many miles? Just sayin'....

Stud boy deuce bar, corrects all darting on all our sleds, carbides only going to last as long as your not crossing pavement, I know guys who can take the edge off them in one trip. they ride too much blacktop but they don't care.

Yep stud boy deuce bars perform well too.....Generally 1 Aggressives Snow Trackers 2 Bergstrom Triple Points 3 Stud Boy Deuce Bars. I’m on Doo TS skis now so thinking about trying woodys navigators and moving up to OEM 7 inchers. That’s if I ever get a chance to ride goodish conditions. I won’t upgrade in fair conditions just not fair trial or money well spent. Anybody have opinion on TS skis with Navigators 7” carbides on enduro 900t?

I used triple points until I found and tried snowtrackers. That's all I buy now...and it's not often.
