we were on our way up to Bayfield in middle January.........little snow by Ashland, no gas ....alot of places closed for good! Never made it to Bayfield and rerouted. The whole penninsula area isn't what it used to be. We had reservations at the casino in Bayfield and it took me talking to 3 different people to find out where the trail came into their joint! Obviously it may not at all!!

You would think they would want the business this time of the year.........casinos have the resources to keep things going......but then look what happened between Hurley and Ashland.....there they cut off the "Iron Horse" trail and dead ended it at their casino....SORRY NOT A SNOWMOBILE FRIENDLY AREA ANYMORE

Wow! You just slammed what is, in my opinion, the best place to ride in Wisconsin. Go ahead and formulate your opinion of Northern Bayfield County by the City of Bayfield but that is well documented in this thread, so no surprises there. Their disdain for snowmobilers has been there for years. I wrote of riding into Bayfield nearly 20 years ago.

Your comment about getting to the casino is baffling. If you truly did ride to the casino, which BTW is in Red Cliff, there is only one way in and out by land and that is on TR1. Its almost impossible to miss. Simple and easy.

No gas and a lot of places closed? Hmm. Not sure how to respond to that other than most riders plan ahead when riding in very rural and somewhat remote areas. Like Candyman stated, the Bayfield County Snowmobile Map might be of assistance to you. There are closed businesses in the UP as well, probably more than here, but that doesn't keep the crowds away. People figure it out and make plans to meet their needs.

Lets be honest. Snowmobiling is on the decline and, as a result, that has resulted in a negative impact on many rural areas. And not for just snowmobiling. Plus the membership in local snowmobile clubs has sharply declined which puts a lot of work to maintain the trails in the hands of a very few dedicated souls. If you want to make a difference, then get involved.

Candyman & Woodside are both correct, this is maybe the premier riding area in the upper Midwest when the snow is right. Been riding this area North of HWY 2 & Brule, Iron River, Barnes since 1995. Anyone considering a trip to the area - you will be impressed!

Wow, I love Bayfield county. Stay right at Lakewoods and go any direction. Deep Lake Lodge has great prime rib, they're near Brule. Lots of places for fuel, and Northern Bayfield county is the Cherry on top of the sundae. Get up there less sleds means top notch trails, and it's not Bayfield peninsula's fault I hit a deer up there that was just rotten luck.

Bayfield county was where I got to go for 4 days with my parents, every winter when I was 11, 12, and 13. Then my parents divorced and the sleds got as torn apart in the divorce as us kids. It was the first place I came back to once I got my own sled, and the first place we took our kids on a two night trip when we had a chance.

But, if you don't like it that's alright. Less sleds on the trail for the rest of us!
