CCW and why.

The connection is, having a CPL is like having insurance. You hope you never have to use it, but it's nice to know it's there if you need it.

Yes, you'd think you'd be safe out in the northwoods. But I've read accounts of bowhunters (sitting in their treestand) being robbed by thieves posing as "hunters". Could something like that happen while sledding? I don't know. As sick as this world has become, it sure doesn't seem unthinkable.

Hey, I'm not arguing for or against. Some people feel the need, and if they do, it can be a nice option to have (provided they have their CPL and obey the laws concerning it). If you don't feel the need, then great -- don't carry. Personal choice.

As far as the streets (or woods, or whatever) turning into a free-for-all shoot 'em up, that old myth has been debunked so many times it's not worth the effort to debate it.

Is Hazel Park part of Detroit metro area? I think it may be an enviroment issue. I live in a small town. Our biggest crime this yr. was "Kids apprehended for shop lifting candy bars at Rite Aid". Kinda like Mayberry. I think I would just get into trouble if I had a gun with me, especially if they started slamming on me about my chioce of 2 stroke oil. LOL. Merry Christmas everyone!!! (post800). I am still a little hurt I lost 1000 posts during the change over.

Yes, Hazel Park is on the border of Detroit. Over the years we've had prowlers, the garage broken into, a car broken into, the house broken into (when my mom was home!), and as recently as a year ago a drive-by shooting less than a mile from my house (I was outside taking out garbage and heard the shots). So yes, maybe it is a cultural/environmental thing.

One of the things I like about the CCW permit you guys have in Michigan; you have the upper hand with criminals. You have the upper hand in a situation and to make a choice to defend. I see it as “evening the playing field” with some idiot that feels the need to make life a little interesting for you and your family/friends. I don’t get the right here in Wisconsin. True it’s “legal” for me to have an open carry, but it’s advertising… and in some ways an inconvenience for some folks especially near the big cities here the south east. I would prefer to have the choice to carry concealed. You guys in MI are lucky.
