Cell phone signal boosters

So that great new all steel house that I built has a trade off.... Cell phone reception gets pretty sketchy in places. I was looking at boosters but they are all 200 bucks or more. Anyone using a booster and wanna give a guy some advice?? Thought the days of standing in a window to talk were over... Thanks in advance...

Maybe tap into your house w a couple screw terminals and use it as an antenna. Kinda like the metal coat hangers and foil that were used back in the day. Sounds logical. That's all I got.

I called Verizon and told them Im switching providers because I cannot use my phone in the house, so they shipped me a booster for free...so I would try that first.

slimcake, I have a good friend who has a booster in his new house. Steel roof, and side walls partially steel. A good friend of his was in the cell phone/radio business that put it in. I will get with him on your problem. My steel roof did not seem to effect our signal, but it was weak to begin with. The wife has a Iphone 6, and gets good reception no matter where she's at, where the other phones drop out immediately. I have never seen a phone with such good signal reception, none. Do you know anyone with the I/6??? I am planning on the steel siding also. So it is also in my interest. If hemi-newman's way works, problem solved!!!

I have a Droid turbo and it is really good but in places it cuts out. Just like in my shop it is all steel and have the same problem. Guy across the street runs a tire business and he put in a booster. I would see him outside on the phone all the time. Not anymore. I know they work just didn't want to spend the $$'s. Hemi I am going to try that. I usually have a way with those people.... lol. Let me know what you learn abe!! Thanks!

Sorry, but that makes me chuckle....good luck though.

You really are a piece of work. I remember you picking on Sandy Krupp even. Must suck going through life with the smell of chit constantly from having your head so far up your azz!!! Your mother must be so proud....

Hi old abe not to hijack your thread but Wondering about these steel side walls? How is the heating/ac bills going to go. Steel cold in winter, and hotter then a fire cracker in summer time. How about other peoples comments about it looks like a pole barn. Do you get many of these strange people voice there opinion ? How about when it storms , is it loud on the inside of house. I built my own house with brick walls and spray foam, and cant hear a thing and energy bills not bad. Snow run off in the winter. Wouldn't you rather have snow on your roof for insulation for 2 months for free. as opposed to a mess in your landscape damaging plants for snow slid off, my wife would be upset lol. i say they grow back lol

I have tried a few. First one was the z-boost http://www.zboost.com/index.php it worked OK, but the cell phone fights between this and the actual tower. and when the "hand off" would occur, I would drop a call. I have it sitting on a shelf, you are welcome to try if you pay for shipping. If you like it, we can work something out. I bought the one for at&t.

Next one I still use is the at&t micro cell. https://www.att.com/att/microcell/ You have to have good internet for this to work. If the internet goes down, so does the "tower".

Mostly I use wifi calling. There is a setting on the iPhone and I think an android phone that routes the calls over wifi. it's free and as long as you have good internet, works great.

It's now easier/cheaper to cool, and to heat with the steel. No noise. Steel reflects, shingles absorb. Shingles never again!!! There are different ways (retarders) to hold the snow/rain from doing what you worried about. My roof is hidden fastener type, residential roof. The steel siding is decorative/cedar type look. 100 year warranty.

Ya I don't think this looks like a pole barn... View attachment 56699

Right on slimcake!!! The first steel siding I seen years ago sold me. Anyway, I talked with Bob, and he said the amplifier/booster antenna positioning is important to assure the best performance, for both the inside, and outside antennas. He hopes you can get it through Verizon, as his Wilson was more than $200.

I have a booster on two different properties I own. One has a Wilson booster and I can get 4 bars in the house now versus 1 to none before...no more standing in yard trying to talk to someone, so that works great, IMO. The other is on my UP property that has a metal roof and I put a Z-boost booster and an antenna on the roof and it greatly improved my cell reception....I have Verizon as carrier. Hope this helps.

I bought a Wilson DT booster from Best Buy (Amazon has them also) for a couple hundred bucks. Used to have no signal at my camp and had to walk down the road. Now I can make calls from inside the place. Works great.
You may need the DB Pro, which is a couple hundo more for your place.
