Chain case oil change leaking

Ok, I changed the oil, and I know I got it tight, without stripping the bolts, and without pinching the rubber seal. Should I have used that blue colored (forget the name) sealer stuff on it?

It's leaking out all my fresh oil!!

The blue stuff, are you talking Thread/Loc tite. That would be for the bolts only. Makae sure you use a crossing pattern when you tighten the bolts, not too tight.

'99 XC 500 is the sled. Silicon sealer is what I was referring too, I was told it's black now (Not that the color matters).

Sled is up on its side for now, until I get to it this weekend to double check my work. I didn't think I over tightened them, crushing that rubber seal, but I suppose anything is possible now.

I did both a '98 and a '99 that had never been touched and both leaked just because of the age of the seal.

Actually, I would bat it is High Temp RTV (Also made by Permetex and many others. Blue is the same stuff, just not High temp.

My 99 did the same thing, I sealed it up with rtv. Doesn't leak there anymore, watch out for you oil reservoir hose leaking out the bottom of the tank. Mine fell out while it was in storage a few years ago, that was a heck of a mess to clean up in the sled, trailer, and floor. It's a bad design for an oil tank.
