Have a 600 classic, went to change belt and tried to spead the secondary using the tool provided. would not move, didn't want to apply a ton of pressure but I did tork on it hard. Any suggestions or comments are
appreciated.

Maybe try to remove the secondary. On my IQ it's only one bolt. Not sure about the classic.

It's only one bolt...

Just use a 1/4-20 bolt that's about 2 inches long, fully threaded. Works like a charm.

To get the belt off, you have to spread it, taking the secondary right off has worked on other sleds to get the belt off easily, but not on these sleds.

I don't torque this bolt with a torque wrench either, the secondary slides on the jackshaft so the bolt isn't applying pressure to anything behind the secondary like the bolts that hold on the chaincase gears do.

He's saying that the 1/4-20 thread is where he didn't want to torque it too hard. The secondary wouldn't move when he tried that.

Sorry I screwed up, the middle bolt that holds the secondary on is the one I don't torque. Too much time for me, I take it off all the time to grease the bearings. On my new edge chassis sled, I don't have to do that no more.

I too took the secondary off to grease bearing.
Its not in reverse napamatts if thats what your suggestion about reverse notch refers to.
I'm wondering why secondary came off easy to grease but won't spread?
I have 2 classics and the other one spread easy. Thanks for all your help.

You don't have to pull secondary to grease, just lossen bolt and slide out about 3/8" and grease gun will go on zert just fine. I never can find the 1/4" 20 tool to change belt. roll it on the old fashioned way. put new belt around primary with writing facing outward so you can read it. Slide belt on top of secondary and roll on the rest of way. sled will move backwards as you do this. Some will say this is hard on a belt. It is nowhere near as hard on the belt as a 800 or 900 tugging on it in "full throttle take off mode" with a 230# plus guy on the sled. I have seen secondarys with aluminum corrosion fusing together both sheaves from sled sitting in a damp trailer or heavy salt spray corrosion from being trailered on an open trailer. If you feel you need to crank on the tool or bolt to spread sheaves I would get a grade 8 bolt for this.

I am sure I have it somewhere, just don't know were it is. I have taken 2 of the bolts and wlded them together like a T handle and made replacement tools for this and as I put it away I find the actual tool. My luck. I just roll the belt on most the time. With the Renegade I had you pretty much had to use the tool for the belt.

Thanks for all your help. I won't get a chance to work on my sled till next week so don't have any results to show yet. I should clarify I did just loosen the secondary enough to grease the zert. Polarisrider1, I didn't remove the old belt yet. Would I beable to roll it off in reverse fashion of installing a new belt? Thanks again.

I roll them off in the same direction I roll them on. Sled move backwards about a foot if that. Most the time removing a belt is easy, just pull out all the schrapnel. Belt tools, what a concept, but who has the time while your buddies are gaining about 1 1/2 miles a minute on you out in the bush eh? In the "real world" changing a belt is like a Nascar pit stop, git ur done! Someone may have a camera ready to shoot you with your hood up. lol
