Just a heads up, that is the Copper Dog 150 sled dog race in Calumet that weekend. Great event, lots of fun, but hotels are full or filling up quickly!!
Have a great trip!!

thanks for the tip - I would assume the sled dog race will be on the snowmobile trails in and around calumet, or the whole Kewee area or ? Do you know if they will have some trails closed for the dogs ? Is it saturday AND sunday ?

Just did a search, looks like they go from calumet, to eagle harbor , to copper harbor and back to calumet again so it's pretty much an all weekend thing.

The race starts in Calumet on Friday night around 7pm and they go to Gay/Eagle Harbor, then the race resumes Saturday, goes to Copper Harbor. On Sunday it goes from Copper Harbor to Calumet last sled usually arrives around 2p. The trails are shared with Snowmobiles, marked very good with a ton of volunteers out for the safety of all. Its a great time:)

Yes that does sound good, we've seen some teams on the trails before, it's pretty neat. BUT I called you guys/gals last nite and you are all booked for fri/sat nite :( so we need to figure out where we're gonna stay up that way.
Any suggestions ?

You could try the Trailside or the White House, I'm not sure what their availability is. We are still full on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday... good luck!

Rich, you could try Hallmark Hut, Julie's Motor Inn. Good luck! Everything filled a week ago that I checked. See ya on the trail!

Thanks, but I was looking forward to your waffles for breakfast lol - we're still deciding on which area to head up to mostly depending on which survived the warm up the best the past couple of days.

How did the conditions survive ( snow and trail ) in the Kewee ? Might stay in Baraga and just ride up to the Kewee, just wondering how it is down that way................

I'm not sure about south, I know they had heavy rain on Friday:( (Near L'Anse). Up north we had snow all day yesterday and cold temps, probably 2 inches of new snow. I had heard the trails were icy, and they couldn't groom with the warm temps, but with the cold temps and new snow they should have them in good shape again. We still have plenty of snow!
We hope you can make it up, we will have the waffles ready to go;)

Is it possible to take the road from Chassel to Painesdale to connect with trail 3? If so, would there be any snow or ice left on the road after this warm up?
