Chassell to Painesdale

Has anyone ridden from Chassell to Painesdale/South Range yet this year? I found the following directions on an old post and I understand that there are roads to get there. Just wondering if anyone knows of the conditions for riding this route this weekend.
A better, but longer route might be from Green Light Bar (22095 7th St, Chassell, MI 49916) — check with them — west on Seventh Street, south on Creamery Road to Pike River Road (≈ 1.7 miles total) then either:
1. Continue west on Worham Road (1 mile) then North on Fishes Road (1 mile) to C-P Road, then west on C-P Road (2 miles – this section isn't so nasty), North on Superior Road (0.5 miles), west on C-540/Goodell Road (2.5 miles) to the Bill Nichols Trail just southeast of Painesdale (≈ 9 miles in all).
2. North on Pike River Road to cross C-P Road (1 mile), then continue north on Paradise Road to Boundary Road (2 miles) then west on Boundary Road to to Superior Road (2.1 miles) then west on Elsie Road/Stanton Ave (2.1 miles), Atlantic Ave, and either Painesdale St. or Trimountain Ave. into South Range, then Baltic Road to pick up the Bill Nichols Trail at Wildlife Refuge Cabins (0.3 miles) (≈ 10 miles in all).

I think bayfly pretty much nailed it.
My experience there is a bit outdated by now, but for anyone unfamiliar with the area, the Chassell-Painesdale Road — certainly the ≈1¼ miles up the hill from US41 to Paradise Road can be an aggressively plowed & salted very busy "freeway" with heavily loaded logging trucks and what not, plus a number of ditches & "babbling (in the spring & summer, at least) brooks" crossing beneath the road, and with limited culverts. Not a great place to play "bumper cars" with your sled vs. the big iron!
To some degree that applies to Paradise Road as well, but at least it's fairly level. You might do well to continue west on C-P road from Fishes Road to perhaps Superior Road or beyond. Check with Green Light Bar? Yes, that would be a very wise move.

Thanks frnash. I believe the directions in my post were cut and pasted from the one you created last year (sorry for not giving proper credit). The directions seem pretty clear and there do not appear to be a whole lot of other options when looking at a map. I was hoping that someone who had ridden this lately could chime in. But from your descriptions of the hazards, I am not too excited about making this run. I have ridden the Chassell to Baraga trail in the past and would prefer not to do that again either. A group of us were considering staying in Chassell this weekend but we were fortunate to find other accommodations. Thanks again!

The trail from Chassell to Baraga is actually a really fun trail when conditions improve a lot and freeze up.
I would agree if they groomed it regularly. Years back I rode the trail and it was sufferage, omg.
So at least you got to vote on it. (?)
sufferage: n. alternative spelling of suffrage.
suffrage: n. the right to vote, especially in a political election.
c.f. sufferance: n. patient endurance especially of pain or distress. (You know, like enduring my "spelling lessons"!
