MARINETTE - We are continuing to follow breaking news from Marinette tonight.

An emergency management official tells us there is an armed student holding a classroom hostage at Marinette High School.

Marinette County Emergency Management director Eric Burmeister says a high school administrator called authorities after 3 p.m. Monday to say an armed student had burst into a classroom.

Marinette Police Chief Jeffrey Skorik updated the situation Monday evening. Skorik said the student has a handgun. He also said 23 students and a teacher are in the classroom. No injuries have been reported.

Parents are being asked to go to the Marinette County Courthouse Jury Assembly Room (located in the basement of the Annex) if you have not been in contact with your child.

Police have roads near the high school blocked off at this time.

Thank God everyone is okay. This is so scary. I live in the Chicago area and when they reported it here a little while ago it sent chills through me!!! I hope and pray that everyone can get through this. What is this world coming too?

I think he was just upset that there was no snow.

All kidding aside I'm glad it ended with all of the hostages unharmed. Did the kid kill himself or just shoot himself?

6:15 a.m. No word on his condition yet.

Marinette Police Chief Jeff Skorik says the 15-year-old student gunman who took 23 students and a teacher hostage shot himself as police entered the classroom.

Chief Jeff Skorik says the boy fired three shots -- not at anyone. Officers in the school "breached the door" of the classroom and the student shot himself.

He was transported to Bay Area Medical Center. His condition is unknown.

The students and a teacher were unharmed.

"All of the students were safely removed from the school and were put on buses and reunited with their families," Chief Skorik said.

Police found two handguns in the room -- a .22 caliber and a 9mm semi-automatic.

Those final gunshots that came minutes after 8 P.M. weren't the only shots fired. "The initial debrief of the students that were involved, we learned that there were shots fired in the classroom prior to law enforcement's arrival," Chief Skorik said.

A student tells Action 2 News the boy left the classroom while a movie was being shown and came back with guns and shot the movie projector.

What a terrible situation to occur. According to an article, it was stated that the guman (boy) had a great family and seemed like he was a good kid. Something bad must have occurred to go to this extreme. Sad story!
