I have a 2004 Chev 4 x 4 with the electronic shift. Most of the time it does not work properly and sends a service 4 x 4 to the info panel on dash. It does not look to be a mechanical issue but more electronic. If I shut off the truck and restart, it will work OK for a while then the same problem. Any ideas where to start? Thanks for your input.

I had the same problem with an '05. I was able to fix mine by re-soldering the connections on the board inside the push button switch. Has worked perfectly since, and only took me about 20 minutes. Here are some instructions...

the fun is just starting my late 04 was worse than a old jag push in the cigarette lighter and next thing full nuclear melt down. speedo go out yet how about the trailer light harness ground wire from hood to chasi can you leave it for a week and still have power in the battery dont get me started on mechanical issues
The dash switches have been a problem in this model year. Some more of the shoddy Delphi electronic parts that put them in bankruptcy.
